Our Hill of Stars by limered

[raw]
made by limered for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

Thumbnail_cropped.png It's harvest season and Harvey awaits a lot of yield this year.

You need to guide him over each field and find the path with the least amount of turns.

Can you solve each level with 3 stars? Challenge yourself!

Maybe there is a better solution than we (the developers) anticipated? ;)

Really cool idea, type of game I'd love to have on my phone in a quick moment to solve a puzzle!

Impressive level design, I'm still obsessed with advancing the levels.

I felt that the arrow rotation took a while, but other than that I quite liked it.

Had a lot of fun working through the first five or so levels of this. Heres some feedback. I hope you find it helpful!
Things I loved:
- Really nice way to use the theme. Core mechanic is a lot of fun.
- The actual level design is also very nice. The puzzles were legitimately interesting
- The sprites and the game art are a lot of fun

Suggestions:
- In unity web player, the movement of the tractor was very choppy. It seems to jitter back and forth as it moved. Not sure if it was the animation or the web player
- It is a bit slow to click a square 4 times to get an arrow in the direction I want. I think it is a mix of responsiveness- the animation makes it feel a bit slow to respond to a click, and the mechanic itself of needing to click up to four times.
- I could see this working very well as a mobile game
- The levels were always hard enough to be interesting, but I would have liked to skip ahead to some of the harder puzzles without grinding through the early ones.

@algo-baker Thanks for your Feedback! The Jitteriness is not in the Animation is Probably beacuse of the browser I had no problems using Edge.

@algo-baker if you do not feel like grinding to the end, you can pause and come back later. We save your progress in user prefs, so you can continue where you left of ;)

I really enjoyed this one, but got stuck on the level with the baskets. What was the trick there? :)

Very juicy sound effects and animation of the arrows, and I loved the mooo's!

Would've been fun to play with limited arrows. But maybe I didn't get far enough. ;)

The game is fun, and puzzles are interesting,
same suggestion related to clicking mouse 4 times by @algo-baker. I really liked the tile swapping effect. Good job

@knatterton could you tell us the level number? We've got a lot of baskets laying around :D

I think it was the third or fourth. There was cabbage and baskets (with cabbage), and I thought I was meant to harvest those as well, but my tractor got stuck. :)

If you mean level 5: you only have to harvest the cabbage (it's shown on the right top what to harvest) and you can drive over the mud. Maybe that helps :)

2 hours of mine and a friends life going through these puzzles. pain and suffering throughout.
Odd difficulty spikes throughout and we had way too much trouble with level 20.
Really a lot of fun and great puzzles with room for improvement in design and layout. It got a bit cumbersome to have to wait for the tractor to go through each tile to check our progress.

Great level design! I got to the level after the big basket made with arrows. Love the concept with the apple trees and I could see myself losing a few hours to this if I didn't stop myself.

Agree with other commenters that the arrow rotation is a bit slow and perhaps some QoL changes, e.g. a fast mode where the tractor moves at 4x speed and allowing you to WASD while hovering over a tile to put down the arrow you want.

Fun game, good luck!

Great puzzle game! Had a blast going through the levels. In some of the later levels the amount of arrow turning starts to feel a bit tedious, but I guess it can't be avoided. Maybe earlier comments about the rotate speed could help alleviate it somewhat, but it's a minor thing, so it didn't bother me that much. The addition of the star system was great so the player knows how they did.

Very cool little puzzle game!

Very fun and good puzzle difficulty curve! The little details are really nice, like different sound effects for each arrow change, the slowly grazing sheep, and the idling harvester sound in the background. The pixel art is really nice, and the tile flip animation too. Great job on all the puzzles and polish in such a short window!

I like the sounds effects. The overall atmosphere is really relaxing. Gameplay is unique and fun, and better than I thought going into it. Enjoyed zooming around the fields. Matches the theme well.
