WORD HARVEST

Play on itch.io

This year's harvest will be bountiful...if you can get rid of all the debris cluttering up your field! Seems like every season there are new boulders, tree stumps, and even a few shallow graves that appear from nowhere... oh well, you better get to work cleaning up all the garbage so it doesn't wreck your tractor!

In Word Harvest, you play as a farmer harvesting the season's crops. Each crop you successfully pick up gives you points towards your final score. As your tractor moves across the screen, obstacles will sometimes appear in your path. If you type the word on the obstacle, it disappears - but if you don't, it will jam your tractor, causing you to lose a life and miss picking up crops for a short period of time.

it's a solid typing game with good arts. I lose 3 hearts in a row in level 5 thought. Would love to pause the tractor from moving for a while on hit so I can have the time to clear the obstacles.

A unique take on the theme! and it was very fun! pressing backspace deleted the entire word which took some time to get used to but also added to the challenge. but i think the starting levels were a bit too easy. its better to make it too easy than too hard in a game jam though! also one thing. i dont know why but while playing, the word box got highlighted just like how text would get highlighted when u select it.. and i couldnt type/erase anything and died.. great game otherwise though! oh and also a background music would have made the experience more immersive but hey it is a gamejam

Fun game! I made it to level 4 before getting overwhelmed. The graphics look really nice and clean. I also appreciate that backspace deletes all letters at once, very handy.

This is a really unique take on the theme. Having to watch all the rows of words simultaneously makes this more challenging than other typing games I've played, and the art is brilliant. Great job

As you noted above, it's eerily quiet. I understand that you ran out of time, but I think you should definitely revisit this post-jam to add some sound-effects and a backing track. It would make a world of difference.

I also think that the difficulty ramps up too slowly. I think I could probably have made it much further than I did (Level 2), but the early levels weren't challenging enough to keep me playing.

Like the artstyle! The first 3 levels were quite easy, level 4 skyrocketed in difficulty for me. The backspace is indeed very handy.

Super nice graphics, great job!

As always with typing games, they get a bit boring to me after a while of playing, and this one is no exception - though you managed to make it a bit more interesting with levels. I would have given up a lot quicker if it was an endless runner.

Pity about the sounds, they would help a lot with engagement I think.

P.S. A minor nitpick - I'm not sure if there was a way to confirm the menu to go to the next level via a keyboard, but having to use a mouse in a typing game is a bit awkward

It can be a cool commercial educational game for kids!:)

@kenneth-dd That is an excellent idea! Added to the list.
@mvasko2 Menu navigation via keyboard makes sense, I'll add it to the list.

Such a shame you lost time by switching engine mid jam! Audio would really enhance the experience and you've already done so much! It's good to see something so fresh and different!

Really fun and unique take on the theme, making a typing game. The difficulty really jumps up at level 5, I thought that hitting an obstacle would give stop the tractor for a bit, allowing me to clear some of the next obstacles instead of hitting 3 in a row. Overall I had fun with it, and the graphics are detailed and clean.

This is the type of game that gets me addicted... Level 4 is much harder that level 3 but I really like the idea and the visuals. Guess I need more practice!

Fun typing game! And I liked the artwork. My only issue is it has a very large size, so I couldn't see all of it on my laptop screen at once! Agree with the other commenters that some sound effects would go a long way here. Well done though!

Was not expecting to see a typing game! Great submission.

Also errors are expensive, missed one character and you have to retype whole word.

Little, but well made mini-game with nice graphics.

- Beautiful GUI / Menus / Buttons, nice colors
- Nice sprites (most of them)
- Game lacks animation (harvester machine wheels, etc.)
- Simple gameplay, maybe too simple (I missed some additional mechanics)
- In terms of logic it's pretty hard to understand how all of those obstacles appeared on the field
- If you select all text and them press any button, text will disappear, but new character will not appear. Pretty annoying bug.
- When remove the last obstacle in the level, level should just speed up
- In general – I liked the game, even though it was pretty boring (dropped after 3 levels) because of too simple and monotonous gameplay. Some bonuses on the way could help with that.

I also would recommend you to add a link to Itch in the section with links, because a lot of people will look their first (as I did), I barely found your link on the description page. Title orange text doesn't look like a link in most cases. More like a title.
