Enchanted Scarecrow Gone Wrong by Skosnowich

Enchanted Scarecrow Gone Wrong
In Enchanted Scarecrow Gone Wrong a druid enchants a scarecrow to help the farmers and to protect the carrots from stealing crows. You take the role of that scarecrow, but maybe you don't only defend the carrots from the crows. Maybe you can harvest some souls and put them to better use.
Gameplay
In the game you...
...defend the harvest from crows by drawing barriers (hold right mouse button and drag)...
...and from farmers by pulling out their souls (drag with left mouse button and then cut the soul).
For every 2 souls collected, you can bring a carrot to live (click on it).
There is also a tutorial explaining the controls.
Audio Controls
I didn't manage to implement a menu for audio controls. But the following shortcuts can help:
M- mute/unmute sounds+orarrow up- increase volume-orarrow down- decrease volume
Highscore
My current highscore is 25900. Upload a screenshot and post it in the comments if you beat it.

Used technologies
This time I tried out Godot. The graphics are made by myself and the sounds are created with Bfxr. Sadly I had no time to make any music. The font in-game is the font 'Octavius' from Ikkle Font Pack by JackOatley.

Source code
Full source code will be made available soon.
Downloads
Currently only the Windows and the Mac builds are tested. The Linux version is untested as I don't have a Linux machine at hand.!
There are two compatibility rendering versions for Windows and Linux available with the "CompatRendering"-suffix. If you encounter any visual bugs (e. g. white screen) you could try them.

The introduction is beautifully done and was nice to see the first time around, but I wish I'd be able to skip it on subsequent playthroughs. Bringing the carrots to live is definitely amusing, but there didn't seem to be enough benefit to it to justify losing a carrot over it.
@dom-de-re @pikkufighter Also thanks for your comments. Regarding a goal or the point in animating the carrots: Yes, initially I had the idea that the raised carrots should attack a nearby village as some sort of end goal. But I didn't get to implementing that and thus I made it a simple high-score game.
The first time you play it even after watching the tutorial you get very frazzled, the game is super hard later on and you have to go and harvest human souls when you're robbing around with crows.
I realised I could only save three souls and kept saving them up and ended up losing a bunch of them stupidly, but it would be a good idea to skip the beginning when restarting.
The sound effects and sound direction in the beginning (with the witch/wizard walking) were my favorite sound effects, and I would have loved to see more of those throughout the rest of the game.
It took me more time than I expected to understand what the tutorial wanted from me, but after that I had a pretty good time.
My wrist hurts from playing, so I'm not going to go back for a second round - but great game!
Loved the entry either way :D!
@sheng-mai Yes, the limit of the soul count was never explained and honestly, looking back, I probably would remove it or set it way higher, so you could spawn armies of carrots. :carrot:
@boaz4 Glad you liked the beginning, if there were more time, I probably at least added a ending "cutscene". Can you describe what hindered you in understanding the tutorials faster or what I could change to make them more clear?
@magnanix I understand the problem, and yes, probably your loops then were too tight. I thought about disabling the dragging, but with it you wouldn't be able to extend the soul again and you would have to wait until it's pulled back, could be frustrating as well.
Do you use the Windows, Mac or Linux build? Can you start it via Command Line and see if that gives any errors or warnings?
Alternatively, I also uploaded two compatibility rendering versions for Windows and Linux just now. They have the "CompatRendering"-suffix. Maybe you could give that a try, it might help.
Interesting controls, but would have loved a bit of a rest / clear now and then to take a rest.
This is the best tutorial I've seen so far- and the gameplay is suuper satisfying on the second run xD
