Monster Frogger by ryan0788

[raw]
made by ryan0788 for LD33 (COMPO)
Have you ever stopped and said to your self, "What if Frogger was kind-of-mixed with GTA?". Well inner dialogue, wait no longer!
It has police! It has helicopters! It has missiles! It has a misunderstood frog! It's MONSTER FROGGER!

In this take on Frogger, instead of avoiding the vehicles, you jump on them to assert your dominance and make some cash. Eventually the police will catch on though, and it will be a battle of the fittest. (Froggiest?)

Controls:
Arrow keys: Move
Spacebar: Use tongue (When unlocked)

I was down to the wire on this one so I didn't manage to fit in the boss battle I was planning on putting at the end. Please enjoy anyways, feedback is always appreciated!

A nice idea, but I think the monster looking that much as frog really offsets the mood. I like the idea of the power ups for this kind of frogger game. On the down side, the music kind of irritated me.

Fantastic little frogger game, graphics are cute and spot on, sounds fit perfectly with the graphics and theme of the game, upgrades add a nice layer to the frogger mix. Had alot of fun. Good job!

Nice (if very physically small) game! For being so few pixels, the animations look quite good.

Solid reinterpretation of Frogger. Props for making it feel like original Frogger as well.

This is an excellent idea but I feel you should have done something to make the frog more menacing or something, at first I didn't even realize I was supposed to dodge cars so I just avoided them. The police cars weren't very readable so I accidentally tried to eat them a few times. If their police lights were flashing it would be better readability.

Hey fellow frog-game creator! Turning frogger into a monster - nice idea! I like being able hit the police after purchasing some tongue from the tongue store. Good work, nice graphics!

@voidstar33 I used SFXR for sound effects, FamiTracker for the music, and Paint.NET for the graphics- Thanks for playing!

Cute game... You could have saved me some time by letting me know that I was supposed to smash into the cars. :)

After I figured that out, it was smooth sailing. I would have loved to see your boss monster!

Found it so satisfying destroying stuff I would sometimes hang back in the beginning and jump on everything - nice work on cam shake, particle and SFX, makes it really satisfying!

One thing that I think would really improve the experience would be to have the logs and cars and everything spawn already out on the rivers/roads as I would frequently have to wait for them to appear.

Upgrades like the tongue as well as the randomly generated levels added a lot of replay value.

I also really dig the music!

Great work!

I agree the music was not the best. As well the flixel screen shake needs to come down a bit, it seems drawn. Good Game though! i like it!

Overall it looks pretty good. Didn't seem like the vehicles gave you any extra money further up the screen, so there didn't feel like there was much point moving off a single road.
But I did anyway, because, well, frogger. You have to!

Terrific stuff. I played this one probably longer than any other so far. The music, I'm afraid, gets old. Other than that it's good fun and very nicely polished.
