Crops on fire by Richard Jedlicka

You are a harvester combine driver and your field of wheat is on fire. Try to cut off the fire by cropping the wheat to prevent it from spreading and save as much crops as you can. Avoid riding over fire it damages your harvester, but it will stop the fire too.
💪 Try to reach 40% on Hell difficulty. 😈
You can use keyboard arrows or gamepad (left trigger to accelerate, right trigger to break, left stick to steer).
I recommend fullscreen (the expand button below the game view) for web embeded version, otherwise it is too small.
* It seem it doesn't work in Firefox, Chrome should be fine. *
Everything is made from scratch except: - the font: https://www.fontspace.com/pixeloid-font-f69232 - the driving algorithm was heavily inspired by: http://y2u.be/DVHcOS1E5OQ
Unfortunately no audio (didn’t have enough time).
This was quite hard development. Most of the time I was fighting with Unity instead of building the game, experience gained though.
Tools used: - Unity - Aseprite - PureRef - VS Code

@rustynoob yeah, driving combine in high speed is not easy 😄
The first thing I thought to myself when seeing the game was imagining an angry guy commiting arson in the dead of night yelling "Liar Liar Crops on Fire". Just the testament of my awful sense of humor I guess xDDD
Also I saw your blogpost when the game was in development where you created the hellbringer combine, and I just wanna say that i you ever update it, please add it as an easter egg or another difficulty lmao.
The hell rider as an ester egg seems funny :D Or it might be the Hell defficulty.

And btw: I first thought I was clever and just ran through the fire, only to figure out on the 3rd fire that there is actual damage :D Otherwise I would have had at least one point to criticize
I managed to get 48% on "Hell" by trying a few strategies. Definitely tough!!! @richard-jedlicka YOU'RE ON BUD :D

Oh, and I definitely felt "spent most of the time fighting with Unity" ... I have felt this in pretty much every Jam. But you know what? It gets easier. I think these last couple of times, I felt a lot more confidence. So stick with it!
And to fighting with unity, yeah I'm sure I'll get better in this, I already have some experience with it so it could have been much worse 😅
I managed to do 100/97/84 percents on easy/normal/hard (ramming the fire before it spreads is imba), hell was a bit too stressful to finish for me.

Really nice, i think it def could use some audio, the idea is good, the controls are nice, i like the multiple difficulties, cool game, keep it up!
A little sound would definitely add to the experience, like hearing the crackling of the fire as you drift past in your tuned up harvester! The minimap was a really great addition too, and it's really satisfying seeing the tracks you've drawn in your field!
Honestly wish I'd leaned more into the "harvester go fast" bit given this game, nice work!
Managed to get 88 % on Hard

But Hell is a whole other story, definitely a new level of difficult :D
I originally chose the Normal difficulty, beat it in about 20 seconds, and then was ready to criticize the game for its length. But then I noticed that the difficulty settings are actually distinctly different levels that use the same mechanics, rather than the same level with difficulty ramped up or down. What you really should have done is split the game into levels. Then your average reviewer would get more playtime out of the same content.
Solid entry. I enjoyed it.
@ditam Yeah I definitely wanted to add audio, but did not manage to do it in time. Ramming the fire before it spreads is not imba imho, it is good part of the strategy especially in Hell difficulty. But I see the easier levels are not well balanced.
@profan Yeah fire cracking sounds, I had exactly this on my plan.
@justin-c Splitting game into levels with different difficulties might be good, but because of the short time I'm glad I added at least the more variants than one.
@lila-pause Yes, obstacles would be great addition to the game I would do it if I had more time.
Really cool game tho, fun trying to figure out best routes and fastest way to stop the fire from burning all the wheat. Good job.
I appreciate the fact that there's no penalty for taking damage, since it encourages the player to actually use HP as a resource, since taking damage without dying actually helps you save more of your crop from burning.
I'll try to revisit it when not live streaming to avoid people making fun of me.
medium - 87%
hard - 81%
hell - 28% :sob:
Really cool. Well-scoped for a 48-hour jam, keeping it simple let you add a lot of cool polish/quality of life stuff! Love the minimap especially as well as the different difficulty levels. Controls feel appropriately snappy yet the right amount of awkward for this type of game :p
