Unalived by TheJonu

[raw]
made by TheJonu for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

You're death.

Not DEAD... well not quite dead, but also not alive. So aren't the people in this castle. They're been "Unalived" a long time ago. But now you need to earn that paycheck and make sure you send them off properly.

Slash your way through rooms of enemies and try get to the end as fast as possible (and brag about your time in the comments).

  • W - Jump
  • A/D - Move
  • Left Mouse - Slash
  • Right Mouse - Dash

Good luck to you Reaper. Go forth and have a bountiful harvest!🌾

Game needs a live timer and a restart button.

Congratz on the WR @alaah. We'll release a version with that as a post jam and a bug fix soon to make the speedrunning experience more comfortable

cool game tho platforming gets a bit clunky and the jump feels to heavy !!

I seem to not get on the platform with the fourth NPC. It says I have to dash, but it seems quite difficult to time?

A few seconds before the end of the game, the screen turned very red (mid-battle). Why was that?
Nothing in the instructions seemed to indicate this might happen. I thought it might have to do with me being close to death, but I still had plenty of health points.

Anyway, fun game! I seemed to forget that right-click also dashed. I only used the Shift key, and it was pretty uncomfortable (especially when I wanted to dash in the up-left diagonal). But it worked out eventually. :P

@miolosh The trick is to dash just after you jump, it makes you go a bit higher. I realize now that it's pretty unintuitive.

@boaz4 I have no idea what the red screen was all about, sorry for that! Yeah, we should have disabled the shift key, it's totally inconvenient. Glad you made it, though!

@alaah You're so good at this

Simple but interesting game. I liked the graphics, especially the way the "flattened" enemies are shown. The gameplay is cool too. Overall good job!

@boaz4 The red overlay is from the web browser. You accidentally selected the canvas/iframe/whatever it is.

@alaah Hahahaha, silly me.
I must've accidentally done so with all my frantic mouse movements in the heat of the final enemy wave.
Thanks for sleuthing it out!

the die way of the enemy is really interesting and the level design is really good!

I had a hard time jumping on certain jumps. I do like the aesthetic of the level, characters, and icons.

So the idea is not really innovative, but to be honest I liked it, especially since my own submission to the jam is really similar to this. Good game overall; however I need to point out that the movement feels ackward. My fix would be to increase sideways speed, and make the jump feel sharper (when going upwards go slower than when going back down). It would be best for you to playtest and see what works out. In addition, it would help a lot if you would be able to change your direction mid-dash. The combat was neat, so it's a waste if movement feels unresponsive.

I liked the aesthetics but gameplay feels a bit weird, I guess because of the controls, jump and dash mechanic etc. Also I would like to attack both ways because if enemy approaches from back, there is nothing we can do. Other than that, a good entry, good job!

This was a neat entry!! I agree with other comments that the movement felt a little stilted. But the reaper idea was really well-implemented here and I enjoyed the aesthetic. As an audio guy, I was a little bummed that there wasn't any music, especially since your mood was so clearly defined. Fun idea, bravo!

Movement gamefeel was a little off. But great game overall! Nice job!
