Harvest Simulator by kromeboy

[raw]
made by kromeboy for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

Immagine.jpg As the title say in Harvest Simulator you have to harvest a field of wheat.

You can play this game in two modes: challenge and free play. In challenge you compete for the online high score: cut as much wheat as you can in 100 seconds.

In free mode you can relax and cut as long as you want: you also can try to create some shape in the crop, like a crop circle.

Press esc to get back to the external camera and view your work.

  • w to move forward
  • space to cut
  • mouse to look around

I have tried to optimize the game by not rendering all the wheat all the time, but this game can still be a little hard on the performance. The Windows version will probably run faster then the web version.

The gameplay is very simple yes BUT the online highscore is awesome! Makes you want to try it again

Oh I wish I could walk there like Maximus from Gladiator. Found couple technics how to gain score fast. Also this will be sick in VR (and probably furniture-breaking)!

Here is my playtest:

@icxon that's great! Love how every time I publish a game someone always find a way to beat my high score :-D

Pretty simple game but with some nice animations and particle effects it could be a nice relaxing game, and the online highscore definitely adds a lot. I love how you can see a view from above of the patterns you've made

Nice crop circle making simulator. If only there was an overhead view to see the resulting pattern.

It's fun to discover more ways to harvest grain faster.

Figuring out the optimal way of cutting wheat was surprisingly engaging

I like this, the birds in the background and the sound to cut wheat put a smile on my face, also props for getting a highscore listing in on the jam deadline! I wanted one too but alas, time :D

Nice work!

@profan the High Score table is a component that I have made some time ago. It now take me about 15 minutes to implement it in any game, and for what I see is always worth the effort.

Thank you for playing!

Oddly satisfying game. Based on other entries I kept expecting to get "upgrades" to my scythe to let me cut more, but keeping it simple subverted my expectations. It's a nice addition to the collection of "experience" games that have been submitted to this jam.

A surprisingly simple yet relaxing game. IT like it. The LODing is funny and made me laugh. My score was 8029 or something.

Nice job! :)

Fairly simple game, but fun! LOD is pretty amusing, but what else can be done, right? Haha. I love that you included the online scoreboard. I am third now!

The online high score is an incentive to keep retrying and find a better technique to harvest and gain more points. Well done!

@dzejpi yea, the LOD was the main focus of what I have learned with this project. Obviously you can't render about a million straws in HTML5 (and if you can the aliasing is still awful). I could probably include something more detailed then a cube, and maybe create 3 levels of detail, but I preferred to show this feature explicitly.

Very relaxing game and the high score is a nice touch. I like how you tried to optimize the game, you have inspired me to look up into something similar myself!

Could not beat the high score, but I'm pretty close!

Good job!

Ok I need to learn some harvesting strategies because the highest I could reach was 8000... Love the highscores system, even though the game is really simple and straightforward I still had an incentive to keep playing :D

Relaxing gameplay that is harder than it seems if you want to be at the top :) I managed to get something over 15000 in the challenge.

I see the basis for a cozy, artistic game. I enjoyed it and have a few recommendations: setup a random pitch when you harvest, setup a mini map, maybe there are some wheat that give you power ups or higher score, even some alien jump scares.

@binaryprinciple the minimap is a nice idea and something I want to try to implement. It couldn't be a second camera because the game can barely handle a single camera. Probably an abstraction on the cubes that get the same on and off state of the main game (if a cube is partially cut it will not be rendered as a cube).

At first relaxing game, and than you her the sound of he swing in your nightmares :D Nice entry, smooth gameplay, but after a few tries it comes boring.
