@roroto-sic Hey, 44 carrots is not bad! Let me know your high score later :-)
@steven-garberg Thank you! Yeah, pico-8's look is so cozy!
@mely Thank you! That's what I was aiming for :-)
@gamebuilder Thank you so much for your comments! Yeah, I did not have a lot of time to balance this game. The game has "hand-made" difficulty settings until 50 carrots, and after that it just gets 5% faster every 10 carrots. I think I won't see scores higher than 70 or 80 for this version, but you never know -- people have always surprised me when it comes to high scores!
@chum-chum Thank you! The pixel art in your game is lovely too!
@xdefault Great score! I put it on the game description! Let's see what is the high score before the end of the compo!
By the way, what was your final score?

Super fun and addictive entry, I always had to immediately retry to get a better high score. It really gets you invested in the strategy of things (Do I play it safe? Do I risk going a bit wilder with the inputs even if that means maybe hitting a rabbit near the end?).
Design of everything is super tight, the rabbit heads jumping around are cute, the sun visualization in the background is stylish and clear to understand as a timer, same with the clear visualization of how the game works with the arrow key input, and of course the carrot counter for the points, all around superb. Wonderful job!
@kenneth-dd Thank you! It is nice to know that my blogpost inspired you! I will give a look at your game tomorrow night :-D
@captaindreamcast Congratulations on the new high score, I have posted it in the game description! :heart:
It's really hard to hit them near the top when there are multiple carrots out at once.

Always nice to see a pico8 game! The visuals here are clean, but the sound in particular is very satisfying. I also liked the music and how it fit the gameplay.
If I were to suggest some sort of improvement - at higher speeds grabbed carrots flying over other holes sometimes made it hard to notice if that's another carrot coming out of the hole. I suppose they could just disappear, but maybe it's just me :laughing:
The speed got to a point where I felt like I had to guess where the carrots were, and I missed carrots that appeared in the same spot as one I just got. Very challenging for my reaction time.
@joel-elias Keyboard controls FTW!
@rhewid At first it would end just by losing lifes, but then I noticed that you could just wait forever then... also, I really wanted to add a "sunset" effect!
@frogman It is so fun to add special effects in Pico-8! After the compo, I want to add some visual effects when the speed goes up (a plane?) and a few more bells and whistles in the game-over screen, which feels kinda bare right now...
@pianoman373 Thank you! A lot of the tricks I used here, I had learned in the "Lovebyte Tiny Code Christmas" series. Highly recommend it!
@wouterk12 haha, yeah, I tried to add a very slow start so everyone could play at least a little bit, but it is still very fast!
@resevoir Thank you :pray:
@kr0k @chaos-1001 @roblaro: Thank you! :two_hearts:
@meep I guess when the mechanics are that simple, you end up having a lot of time to add polish :-P I still want to add a "fixed" mode, where you can memorize all the rabbits and carrots. 61 was a great score!
@superpokeunicorn @plexsoup Thank you so much!
@bartalomew piiiicooo gang!
@jellzilla I want to add some difficulty settings in the future!
@loig Please beat your score and let me know how much you get!
@hexstart Yeah, I also usually die after 50 too! I can see how the carrots can cover each other... I could try to make it clearer :thinking:
@xeke-death Thank you for reading everything! :-) I will try to add more variety to the challenges in the post-compo!
It's not clear when it's too late to press on carrot, so probably allowing to press it while the sprite is visible is better solution. Or graying out carrot, when it's too late to press.
@danmerey Welcome to atari-neon zone! :-P The graying out carrots/rabbits is a good idea, though~~
I think it would be cool if you added a way to measure a persons average reaction time and posted it along side the score at the end. You could even break it down into the 4 different buttons to showing reaction time and success rate per button to help people get better next try.
Extra modes (and a mode where the jumps are fixed so that you can try your muscle memory) are certainly something I wanted to do but got cut due to time limit!
Well done a super-polished entry!

Here’s the start of your game if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts youtu.be/a12mtQSnQ2o?t=1629
Loved the art style and the day/night cycle, congrats on the great game!
@cappa-games 56 on first try? That's really good! Showing the average reaction time is a really good idea, and not something hard to do. I'll try to put it in the post-compo.
@chase-of-bass @bloodbane @Bobbo @ddrkirbyisq Thank you for the nice words!
@lomby Thank you for playing it on stream!
I'm planning to make a higher range of speeds after the voting is done.
