Froot Processor is a game about building a machine to process fruit from the harvest to convert it to the most valuable products.

Instructions

There are six rounds, before each round but the first you can build up to 3 machines that will direct the produce harvested to different buyers.

Place the machines cleverly to try to get the best score!

The Buyers

The buyers, from left to right, have different needs: buyers2.png

Round Events

Each round after the first has a "Special Event" that affects the scoring.

Screen Shot 2023-01-08 at 12.48.54 PM.png

For example, in "Pumpkin Spice Season", all Pumpkin produced are worth double when scoring. Most events double one type of fruit but the Apple Season triples it.

Fruit Values

The base value of fruit is as follows: * Apple is worth 1 * Orange is worth 2 * Pumpkin is worth 3 * Strawberry is worth 4 * Watermelon is worth 5

Each Fancyfier raises the base value by one. E.g. An "Extra Fancy Pumpkin" is worth 5.

The Processors

You can build several different tiles to process the fruit:

  • A Canner will can the fruit. Canning a baked good makes it no longer baked.
  • A Manure Pile makes fruit Organic.
  • A Clone Jar will make two identical copies of the fruit.
  • A Blender converts fruit to smoothies. Smoothies are not baked.
  • A Pieinator converts fruit to Baked Goods.
  • A Fancyfier raises the base value of the fruit by +1. You can chain multiple fancifiers.
  • A Sorter directs the fruit in whatever direction results in the most valuable final result.

Cleverly placing tiles, especially SORTERS, and choosing which column to drop the fruit in can result in combinations that greatly increase your score!

Once you understand the rules, a good goal to aim for is a score of 1000+. One playtester managed to get over 10k!

WOW, this game is so impressive! Love pico 8 and I love that it's not timed, so it's all about strategy. The art gave me Luck be a Landlord vibes. The music is unobtrusive and an appropriate accompaniment, and the game is balanced well. I would legit actually buy this. A couple bits of feedback, just small: I'd love to be able to see the trucks while I'm picking upgrades (maybe I just couldn't figure it out?) because I forgot where they were and managed to get a canner directing things precisely away from the canned row lol. Props for such a cool game.

One of those pico-8 games where the screen size limitation really hurts. Even then, the presentation is stellar. Game design wise, it has a ton of interesting ideas and the positionality aspect posits a good tactical puzzle. Would love to see further exploration to these ideas.

Nicely-designed PICO-8 game! Lots of different wrinkles in the gameplay to give the player plenty of things to consider when trying to optimize their fruit-processing business. It took me a couple of rounds to discover that pressing down let me peek at the Buyers, which I did often after that. The music loop is pleasant and the visuals are charming. Nicely done.

High score: 188

Very cute puzzle game! Hope I can check details of the carts at bottom when placing the upgrades. Interesting idea and it is satisfying to see items got sold and turned to money.

Hey, awesome game! Very cohesive graphics and sounds that give it a very cute feel, honestly impressive work! gameplay wise my only complaint is regarding buying upgrades, I couldn't exactly remember which store rejected what while placing them so that lead to some regrettable decisions lol. But other than that it's a fun loop that feels rewarding when you make a good pipeline!

Amazing graphics, good sound, but overall the most fun game I've got to play this LD. I found myself retrying multiple times different combinations of machines to be able to maximize profit.
In the end you get the most only focusing on two different types and abusing the duplicators.

Very good entry. Loved it.

Super cute game! I got stumped by a malfunction :D Gameplay is quite fun when you get to make good combos. Cloning ftw! Nice music and sound effects, and the art is super nice. Great visual presentation and interface as well. As a pico8 game it seems even more impressive! Very well done for a compo entry.

What a creative game! The art was super cute and the gameplay was really fun. The only complaint I have is that I couldn't see where each of the vendors were while I was placing the machines, so I had to restart my game to memorize the vendor layout.

Very interesting concept! I like how it starts simple and you can improve a lot on your paths, and then fuck up... xD I wish there was ways of removing things, moving them around, rotate them... That would be even more strategic!
Congrats on the jam :)

@elflashor you can't remove or move things, but you can build new tiles on top of them.

Wow! Cool!
First I thought ... mmmh.
Then after learning the controls, I thought, nice.
Then I saw some random results.
On my second run I knew some of the workings, some of the customers and it was fun.
On my third run I really enjoyed improving the products!
Fun!
Feedback:
- Graphics: very nice
- Sound: ok
- Controls: solid, but sometimes felt a bit fiddly (as the Z and X are somehow strange)
- Icons for machines: well readable
- Changing from fruit to pie to shake to ... nice and well understandable
- I did not like that the customers/ shops were hidden when seeing the playfield, i.e. I always forgot what was where and what was rejected etc. I would have liked them to be shown all the time ... I know difficult on a Pico-8 screen
- Harvest theme: OK, kind of "post-harvest" what you did, but good!
- I love the naming of the products!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Superfancy canned watermelon pie ... not sure if that exists, but the ones I saw were cool!
Congratulations!

Great game! Just got 4275 ;) I think you need to limit the number of Clone Jars XD I had 6 in chain, so from 1 fruit I was getting 64 fruits. I was hoping to get more of them, but was unlucky with processors choices. Probably if I would put some other processor at the end I would get even more points. Anyway, awesome game concept!
