Maize Runner by miltage

[raw]
made by miltage for Ludum Dare 52 (COMPO)

Your narcoleptic brother Jim has fallen asleep at the wheel of the family's combine harvester again!

Can you make it home before you're ground to a fine grain and sold at the farmer's market?

LEFT/RIGHT: move

UP: jump

PS: Keep out of the corn, it slows you down!

I found out at the last minute that my web build doesn't want to work properly, so you'll have to download this game to experience it. Sorry Mac and Linux users. :sob:

This is great! Took me a little bit to get the hang of it, but I was able to beat it! :D

A very funny little game. I love the visuals and the running animations. The sound effects is great, some music would also been a good idea, but it would really not be expected for a compo game. Overall a very well made jam game. Well done.

Very fun game! As with other games, I am very impressed by how much polish there is in this game. You chose the right scope to deliver a super well rounded game. Nailed the humor/mood categories imo
Have to say, I found out, you can kinda cheat the game a bit: just continuously jumping lets you outrun the harvester, you only need to change position for the high fences.

I love your art style! The animation of the corn colliding with the player and laying down by the machine feels so good.

The applause was such a great touch, I love it.

Also love the rest of the game, super cool take on the theme, models/animations all look beautiful with a very good-looking art style and the sound design (as already mentioned above too) is amazing. Love the sounds when the fences etc are harvested by Jim. The framing story is also very funny, that made me laugh. Great job all around, well done!

The art is so great, love the animations and how the character reacts to the maize, small touches like this add a lot to the polished feel. The first few times I died almost immediately, but then I got the hang of it and made it home. Well done!

XD It really remembers me to a game that I used to play a lot when I was a child called Crash Bandicoot I think that it was the first one. To be honest I used to hate the levels where I was being chased looking at the camera by a monster behind the character and I need to admit that I hate your game as well because it makes my heart go faster and sweat a bit, so GOOD JOB :)

Seriosly the game is very well done, the sounds are fun, the art the mood, the humor everything is very nice :)

At first I thought it is an infinite runner but I actually made it home! The art is super great I like the details you put in the game like in the harvester there is a people that is asleep (or dead). Noice job!

When in doubt, jump it out! Love the animations and what a funny concept. The direction of the running is honestly great, made it more challening and also a creative way to make the animations play a bigger part. Which is something I'm looking to do in future jams, so thanks for the inspiration!

Then I got greedy and looked for if you made it change for the left/right obstacles but couldn't see it.. Would be pretty coool! ;)

Nitpick obviously, solid impressive entry

Fun runner! I really like how nice it looks. I found it a bit tough to outrun the harvester

Fun game! A really well made version of an infinite runner, except it is finite, which I honestly love! Always feels good to win. The graphics are very nice, super clean and well polished artstyle.

The graphics look really good and I was pretty addicted to trying to better... although never very well

I really love the visuals! I think at the beginning the time between seeing the obstacles and reacting is a bit too short - it would have been a bit easier if I had more time choose my reaction. Once I got the hang of it it was really fun though! I still don't quite know how to easily survive the corn field but it's fun to try anyway

Well done! I love the aestethics. I also had the idea to make a temple runner game during our brainstorming session, so I'm glad to see someone had the same idea and managed to make it fun

Neat little game, fun loop & solid aesthetics all around! It's a excellent coffee-break game. I can easily see it being expanded a lot, with different levels, upgrades and machines/things that chase you around. A chicken running after you would be my favorite.

Great work!

If I remember correctly, it was made in Godot beta? If so then web builds should run only on Chromium browsers and on itch with the uh experimental setting enabled on web settings there. Besides that compiling a linux or a mac edition shouldn't take too long and I can check if it works if you want~

Really fluid animations, fitting graphical style and sounds. The game had a certain "Dumb ways to die" vibe to it :D

I first thought that there was a potato driving the harvester but then only after a further inspection noticed that it was a sleeping person

Also no worries about the missing web build. The windows binary ran really smoothly in wine on Linux

I liked the graphics and sounds, and the controls (besides wrapping my brain around up to jump while running down, which for some reason took me some time to get used to) were solid. I'm usually not a fan of running towards the camera, but this was a good take on that concept. I do wish there was a keyboard key I could press to restart the run on the game over screen instead of having to reach over to my mouse.

Short and sweet. Kind of funny to see the farmer's brother asleep at the wheel, that was a fun little detail. Somehow managed to make it home after some tries. Audio is great as well. Very amusing game. Good work!
