Reap, Water, Sow by Zirrrus

[raw]
made by Zirrrus for Ludum Dare 52 (COMPO)

Control with WASD / arrow keys / controller left stick - or with the on-screen buttons in the web version.

I had to add the buttons to the web version after the compo ended because for some reason it just doesn't react to keyboard input and I couldn't find an actual fix for that. Hence this workaround. I added some time per stage in the web version because of the added awkwardness of the controls.
The score screen at the end was also broken. So was restarting the game.

The web version seems not to react to keyboard input. The windows version worked and I played it through. The game is still in its early stages. I would have like to have sound effects, music and some enemies. Why limit yourself with only growing crops, you could also grow aliens or other stuff.

Man that was difficult. Cute little tiny game, controls were amazingly frustrating and fun (not an easy combination to achieve), and the mechanics simple enough.

Missing some sound/music to spice it up in my opinion.

Also, if you were to continue developing this game, I'd suggest keeping all the screens the same and just "transfer controls" to the different robots without reloading the scene as it takes the player a bit out of the game-space

Cool game! The only issue is that the machine is kinda hard to control, but that's also the way to make the game slightly more interesting.

Played windows build with WASD controls, worked perfectly.
The physics make controlling the harvest a nearly impossible task, but that's what makes it more fun. The idea is nice, and the game is challenging in a good way.

What's lacking is replayability, the game felt way too short and there was no motivation to start again.

- (HTML5) WASD didn't work for me (only the on-screen controls)
- Sometimes the controls felt unresponsive (unsure there was some input delay e.g. pressing a button once vs holding seems to do the same thing)
- Straight-forward objectives, appreciated!
- Liked how everything aligned on a grid (makes it easier to understand where you can plant/water/sow)
- Some feedback (audio / vfx) would be nice to have to know when you do something valid
- Highscore section could count your own scores against your previous scores
- Sowing phase felt a bit floaty (aka didn't look like the blades were hitting the plants you wanted harvested)

Enjoyed this, good job on the mechanics!

So hard to control,10/10! I agree with others that a little sound effect on each successful planting/watering/harvest would be lovely if you were to work more on the game. Nice job :)

Really fun short game. The three stages are a nice idea, especially since they all build on each other. Wonky physics games are usually really fun and this is no exception.

It's a bit sad that I had to control the drone using the on screen buttons. Having to look back and forth between the drone and the controls takes fun away from an otherwise really nice game.

I could easily see this expanded into a full game, maybe with different stages containing different environmental hazards or even a competitive local multiplayer with multiple drones.

I liked a lot about this. Your starting concept is really smart, nothing beats game but make it janky. Tho I think that the on screen controls are a bit of a unnecessary hassle. Good job tho

I honestly think this is genius. Might steal this concept >:D

That's a fun take on drone based farming! Having keyboard input would have been nice - it feels quite out of control. Good job!

That's a neat idea. I like that I really felt the consequences of my doing well or poorly on the previous round. My score: 35. I would have liked a little better visual feedback on where the drone was (just a shadow dot underneath), I kind of got lost sometimes. Nice job!
