Night Harvest by EvilScotsman

[raw]
made by EvilScotsman for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

A short spooky game about driving a combine harvester at night.

Horribley unfinished, but I might add more to it post-jam.

Some lighting bugs in the web version, recommend downloading the PC version if possible.

Great overall athmosphere! I literally had goosebumps at the end...
I think this game can fit some more spooky sounds, but that's just me. :D

@magicstunts123 thank you and yes, absolutely it could do with more sound, it's just not something I'm very good at (hence the glitch when the engine sound loops)

Short, concise and to the point. It perfectly told the (spooky) story you wanted! I loved it! It creeped me out (in a good way) like it was meant to!

so some advice to spice this game up to make it more spoopy. when you hit something, make a sound, that would suffice as a jump scare. also haveing weird ghost ppl running through the corn across the front would have been super scarry. and when you hit the mongrel thing could have had blood splat on the win shield, like make a sound, then turn visible some sprite on the windshield and that would have been good.

The name of your game had almost the same name as mine so I had to check it out
Really liked how you built the atmosphere in the game, I enjoyed it a lot! My main complaint would be that the lighting was a bit too dark - it was very hard to find the stairs up the harvester every time I had to ride it again (I was playing the PC binary version, not the web version). Maybe put a little more lights specifically on that path to make it easier to navigate?
Anyway, really cool work!

Only played for about 10 seconds, but really chill and relaxing wheat harvesting sim!

Ok actually tho I found this art style and concept super unsettling!! The way the field just... keeps going... and you have to get it all done before you can sleep... the combine harvester breaking down, it being the only source of light, not being able to see past a couple yards.... With more development I could see this game being a very effective horror piece! Nice job!

@cat-chef You've missed the thriller part then!

I am not fond of the genre but this one is a positive example. Scary but in a delicate way. Was fun, thanks.

This game is a moody horror-like game. It could be a good opening for a horror story. Players are faced with many questions during the game play. Why do you have to harvest at night? What happens if you don't finish harvesting at night? Why did you hit the cross in the graveyard? The sound of the steps gives a nice vibe and triggers some memories of playing Quake for some reason. Graphics is solid.

Wow, this one definitely earned five stars for Mood and Graphics! I love the style you've gone with here, and it's amazing how much atmosphere and tension is built in only a few minutes. There's a great sense of relative safety in the driver's seat, and the need to climb down into the darkness is a bit more creepy and thrilling every time. This is a pretty compelling start to a horror story, and could really be turned into something fun and interesting if you expand it after the jam. Great work, and I hope to see more of this one soon! :)

Well done atmosphere and spooky vibes. I think with more content and mechanics it could make an interesting horror story.

The sounds were good but not having a fade between the engine sound restarting was super jarring.

Having it pitch black unless in the light gives it a sense of the unknown but maybe having a small tint of moonlight on the field and catching a glimpse of things moving would be another option to add to the paranoia.

Overall I enjoyed it and it was a refreshing change from most of the other games.

The atmosphere is pretty scarry, and I like the part of the story there is in the game. The ending could have used a big scare, but okay you said it is unfinished. Overall a pretty good little experience
