There's a fortune to be made in these waters! img-1.png

Out on the high seas, it's been some time since you've harvested your lobster traps. There's a bounty of crustaceans waiting for you below the depths, just watch out for those pesky fish. Legend has it, a lobster of extraordinary size roams the sea floor...

A good seaman knows their enemy. The well-known Green Gobbler has been vexing lobster fishers for generations. Watch out for the Crimson Cod, a massive fish with a major bite. Finally, the Blue-Bellied Biter is quick witted and is sure to be a formidable enemy.

The Making Of

The Hunt for the Legendary Lobster is a creative effort between a group of friends tackling their second Ludum Dare. The game is developed in PlayCanvas and involves a number of custom shaders and solutions such as enemy tracking. The vertex and fragment shaders for water were developed using perlin noise. The game also features a custom leaderboard, so get in there and post your score! All assets from code to art are completely original and developed over the course of the weekend. Music and sounds are not original.

Wow I really enjoyed this! Great contribution!
A tad hard for me and with the increased difficulty it became a great "challenge accepted".
Couldnt get more than 11 points xD
The only suggestion would probably be the decrease the sizes on the fishes and maybe have some static obstacles which would in turn increase the difficulty more controlled. :)

I absolutely love the vibes of this. When that sax kicks in, though 😍

Simple concept but really well executed. Graphics are incredible, and soundtrack absolutely rocks. Online leaderboard is really nice icing on the cake.

The graphics for this are so good! The game loop is also pretty satisfying. Would be cool if there were more kinds of fish though.

This was a very simple, but super fun little game. It was just so very well executed! I loved how each of the fish had their own little pattern, which I could learn and use to get better at the game. In the end I got rank 6 on the leader board with 16 points :D The fact that the water became darker as you went further down also gave a very nice sense of progression, and it definitely became a lot harder (I am looking at you, big red fish!).
I really loved the music you chose as well. The only problem I had with it was that the music was just getting to the good part when I died, after which the track started all over again. If it continued playing I would have been completely happy :D
Very nicely done! I loved it :)

Oh man I felt like I was soo close to getting to the top of that leaderboard with a 22.

I usually run out of time to do this in my games but I appreciate any jam game that puts in the extra polish work with bonus things like a leaderboard or a tutorial. I also appreciate that your game just goes "Hey, press this!" "and then this!" and now you're good to go, instead of an input picture or a wall of text or list of controls.

I was attracted by the scene on the sea surface, but I didn't expect the main scene is under the water. Although the game is a little bit difficult, it is still a good dodge mini-game.

I really liked the lofi chill music that feets perfectly with the game. Also nice visuals.
Only the concept looks a little bit basic but this is really fun so I played it at least 10 times.

It's brilliant and satisfying game. I love music and visuals, gameplay is a bit of a challenge (I did only 10 lobsters), but fun nevertheless. Great job!

Sooo i would recommend a feew small changes... The camera to be a bit zoomed out more, and the hook to be closer to the top of the screen so that we can see a bit more down of whats to come. Because a fair bit of time the fish come too fast to be able to avoid them. Also making the fish hitboxes just a bit smaller, because it will give more of those wow that was so close moments! Instead of thinking damn it was so close :((
Add a keyboard button to restart the game so that we dont have to move our hand to the mouse and we can instantly get back into action. And when you restart the game keep the music going on instead of resetting it. Its a beautiful track that most people wont get to listen to because we lack skill!

Thats all i can think of and now for the other part... I love this game absolutely! I love the sea and fishing in real life, so this game is really lovely. The graphics are great, the gameplay very addictive to play as long as you make it with less breaks between deaths. And the music wow damn... Im writing this comment and keeping the game in the background just to be able to listen to it more! This is the 4th game out of many this jam that i will bookmark and return to play more these days! And also share with a few of my friends showing them how even with such little time, people can create something so wonderful! This game made my day really so, thank you.

@kikiriki367 Thank you for the kind words and critique! I want to make it clear that the music is not our own work and can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udlpNbop1EA

Chill but challenging game! Audio and music is very relaxing but the game itself is really hard if you try to achieve the best score! Nice entry

Quite a relaxing experience. Difficulty is right on point, I'd say. It has a bit of randomness to it, since you can't see where the fish comes from, but it's not a big deal.

Nice chill fishing type game. The graphics and audio compliment the game nicely (although the hook was jittering a bit as it descended). The transition from the boat to the hook is great and the addition of a leaderboard is nice as a overall goal to achieve a high placement on

Really cool wave effect! Pretty relaxing game :) Too suggestions from my side: a bit smaller hitboxes would felt more generous for players and hook movement could be a bit smoother. Besides, that really enjoyable experience. Good job with the game!

Beautiful looking game, I love the subtle movements of the fish when your hook is near them. I wish the difficulty curve would've started out a little easier though. Also the music is really well done.

I enjoyed the progression of the game. It got harder to see as you went down and the enemies became more challenging. I also really like the lofi music. Great graphics too.

Decent little game, the music fits nicely and the graphics have a nice style to them. The water looks cool in the start, would be nice if that could have been utilized more in the gameplay somehow. Good job!
