LEXICONSTRUCTOR by Matt Rix

[raw]
made by Matt Rix for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

Lexicon-WideImage.png

Build an assembly line for words! Inspired by shapez.io and other factory games.

I didn't have time to add audio so just imagine lots of clinking and clanking.

Basic Controls: * WASD to move camera. * Number keys to select buildings. * R to rotate buildings. * Right-mouse to delete buildings.

I like these type of games. Also, a really cool interpretation on harvesting where you technically harvest these resources and process them, even though it is only string manipulations. Thinking outside the box in the key. Very unique entry, good job!

I love these kind of factory games! To make one in a jam is quite nice. The base building blocks are well thought out and the 3d interface is simple but quite nice as well!

Would have loved a bit of sound with this, just simple blips would have done wonders.

Also, the words chosen did not mean I could keep any of my previous build infra, might have been nice to have a touch of that!

Regardless, lovely game, finished it! (don't think this constitutes as spoilers?)

@joror Great job! And yeah good idea, it would have been cool to have a word that used a previous word somehow.

I'm a huge fan of factorio and satisfactory, and this hit the mark dead center. Great work on this. The idea of slicing and combining words is a really cool twist on this. Nice work!

Nice job to finish this in a jam!

The game lost my attention after a short while because it's missing the unlocks/research aspect and it felt a bit repetitive to delete my old work to create a new one.

But other than than it's a solid game!

Real fun, really like factorio and shapez so I tend to enjoy these types of games :) Nicely done and I really liked the last level/resource that we needed to make. cute touch!

Here's how my whole factory ended up

This was such a good entry! I had a lot of fun and would totally play a full version of this. I think it would have been nice to be able to flip/inverse the cutters/joiners to have more versatile solutions. Keep on making games!

This is a fun game. Would have liked to be able to click and drag and only place movers on every other space.![Superefficient.png](///raw/d20/94/z/56660.png)

Nice, I love games like this. Something about doing long stretches of every other tile being a mover felt wrong to me, continuous belts or even shooting resources until they hit something would have been better.

MMMh this game is so well-made! I absolutely love the gameplay and the concept of harvesting letters. I guess the only thing I can criticize is the lack of a menu, but who needs that when you got an amazing game? Overall, chef's kiss.

@unentokku agreed! I considered doing belts but I had a feeling I would end up spending too much time debugging them (I ended up having to fix a whole bunch of weird bugs with the movers anyway heh).

Probably the best entry I've played with! Have fun during playing it, and the feeling it challenges me!! Thanks for the experience, great game, cool game mechanics and easy to understand goals.

I had a lot of fun with this. Probably the best I have played. I really liked how you took a factory game and mixed it with letters and spelling. I'm sure you could come up with a really fun game with more possibilities. I used the cutter on all the words. That way I could use any letter and not have to reset anything.

OK. So I spent way too much time playing this game. (I have hundreds of hours clocked in Factorio). Anyway, this is one heck of a game. It looks good. It plays well. It's easy to control and easy to understand (not an obvious thing for many strategy LD games). I knew from the start the spaghetti would come. Well, judge for yourself...

What I miss the most is audio: music and sound effects. I believe the latter would help make the game even better.
From a design point of view: what's keeping me from deleting everything and focussing only on the word to make? Perhaps, somehow the existing routes need to remain for some reason?

@maartene nice work! And yeah I wish I had been able to get around to making music and sound effects, it definitely would have helped set the right vibe.

So so good. I could have played this for hours and it was genuinly hard to stop. Push this on and make it a real thing. There is an audience for this game. KUDOS
