River of Souls by nardandas

River of Souls!
We made this in lass than a day because the intended entry was way overscoped.
You're on a bridge when the ends collapse, and you're stuck with your soul gem harvester!
Post your best collected!
Controls
- WASD to move
- Left Click to shoot (and destroy the wooden things hurting your bridge)
- Right Click to suck (the blue things - this is your score)
Tips
- Shooting knocks you back a bit
- If you fall in the water or reach zero resilience you die

small feedback - I didn't move the whole time, just kept pressing the right mouse button.
I like it overall, I would make it a bit more challenging though
The sound effect / music are way too loud IMO though
The kickback mechanic is cool, but doesn't make much sense while the bridge is not broken. Should be more readable.
It was a fun game and we love the graphics! Thank you for your project!

* I'll say that the instant game overs from the gun pushing me into the river were a little frustrating at first. Some kind of respawn with penalty would be cool. I did like the guardrail in the front that falls off, that's a nice touch to make me care about damaged but still standing portions of the bridge.
* I like the aliased rotation pixel art style. A good looking game for just 24 hours, that's for sure.
* I was pretty happy to let most of the bridge collapse, leaving me with just a little portion that I had to worry about. I stopped at 100, but with that and the fact that I'm not punished for letting gems pass by, I think I could have lasted for a long, long time. Unless resilience has something to do with that? I don't really know what that meant.

Good job  !
While for most of the game you can simply hold up, it might be a fun mechanic if your character moves up automatically and forcing you to balance your shooting speed or else you fall back over the edge working sort of like a timed reload and seeing how close to the edge your willing to get to get that last shot in.
Overall I had a lot of fun with it, managed to get 98, might have to come back and try and break 100 sometime! Don't know what those pink things flying around where but they did manage to add a nice freaky vibe to the proceeding. Great work!
My biggest gripe echoes the previous criticism about falling off the bridge, both because it wasn't really telegraphed (even if it's mentioned in the description) so I didn't understand why I was dying a couple of times, and because you can just avoid the whole mechanic by holding up constantly 😅
