Our First Story by Donamougou

[raw]
made by Donamougou for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Our first story, the one we all share. But you probably don't remember it. Relive the different stages that led to your birth, all the way to your first delivery!

Graphics were made by @imdrawmance. Rest of the game, made by me.

The game is a bit educational, but not really "graphics".

Wow, super educational. The gameplay and narration is smooth. My favourite was scroll to grow mechanic. Very well made and you can offer this as an education games to people. Good job!

Really cute game! Deffinitelly something you could show to your kid so they learn about pregnancy.

I learned more from this game than my whole year of biology studies. Love the art style and the gameplay is verry fitting. The talking narrator is a great touch. Awesome game (and educational tool)!

Opening this game surprised me, but without a doubt it was a successful work, and even had a hint of popular science education

My wife's 16 weeks pregnant and we found out the gender today, so this resonated with me. I really like the art style and the way you've told the story of a baby's development.

Hi! That was unexpected but I had a great time :) It's really well done, and the different small mechanics for the different phases are great.

Maybe the camera shake at the end of every stage could be slightly lowered?

Great work!

Yay for the baby, and congratulations. Though that woman needs to lay low on the coffee! That shaking can't be good for the baby =)

Super original entry, I really like that you went for an educational game, and it is a success!
My only note would be that the shaking on each "level" completion seems a bit menacing/out of place, as others have mentioned.

Great work!

@tom-oak ; @carkh ; @kler : Thanks for the feedback! I completely agree with you, and I'm looking forward to refining this for future games. It was my first time adding these elements to improve the game feel and the positive feedback at the end of the level. I added them iteratively (first fading, then shaking, and then music) but didn't take the time to refine them after that. Will focus on that next time. Cheers !

Haven't seen a game of educational genre before in ludum dare. Nice of you for using a gamejam competition to make something actually useful. I think the game was nicely depicted and you get to "make the baby" literally yourself as you drag the stuff around. Great work!

With a bit more polish I could see this being used as a proper educational tool!
If I may, I just have two minor suggestions: I would make the bgm a bit quieter and also prevent the game from continuing before the voice-over has completed, because it's a shame not to hear all of the information.
Altogether nicely done, and I really like how you went with an educational angle :)
