Dungeonfalls by Majadroid

[raw]
made by Majadroid for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

In Dungeonfalls a mage has to deliver health potions to the heros fighting in the dungeon. But he cannot reach them without your help. You have to strategically place dungeon tiles like walls and ladders, so that the mage cange reach the knights and deliver his potions.

How to play

The dungeon tiles fall down from the top in pairs. You can rotate them and stop them in every position. - [left/right], [a/d]: Move the tiles left or right. - [down], [s]: Drop the tiles faster. - [up], [w]: Rotate the tile pair. - [jump/fire], [space]: Anchor the tile in it's current position.

If the mage has to deliver more than one potions, he has to go back to his potion rack, to pick up the next potion. The level is finished, when every hero got his health potion. The level is lost, if the mage dies or if there cannot fall new tiles into the dungeon area.

nice idea! It's fun but a little hard though, I'm stuck at the first level, will be better if it has some items or blocks to break some of existing blocks and ladders.

I really enjoyed this game! I didnt understand the tnt tho? the first one exploded when it had a block on top of it, but then none of the others did. Maybe I didnt read the prompt correctly :(

Really cool game. The music is really chill and the pixel art is great, really creates a nice atmosphere. Going to bookmark this so I can find it again when the jam is over and play it some more!

Awesome way to expand on the classic Tetris/Columns formula. The graphics were really well done, too, and the music was very relaxing

However, I think it still needs some polish in some aspects. I would've loved if you could shoot some magic to destroy blocks for instance, as one slight mistake could take a very long time to repair.

Also, some of the controls get me a bit confused at first, particularly the lock feature and the rotation. I think they would feel better if rotation and lock in were close to each other, maybe KL instead of Up and Space.

Still, even though I might've been slightly critical on the gameplay, I'm a big sucker for these kinds of games and I would love to see this great idea expanded upon :)

It's a nice take on the tetris genre. I would have loved if the blocks would actually split when you place them and only one side of the two is on top of another block and the other side would keep falling down. At least that is what I would have expected, probably based on other games.
The music is nice and chilling and I like the pixel art.
It would also help to have some way to undo or some other special move to clean up when you mess something up after a while you are playing, otherwise it really feels unforgiving

This game is amazing. It impressed me on my first sight. The pixel art is well polished as well as the soundtrack, and it is even more impressive for a 48h duration.

I have beat all the levels. It is not that hard but indeed requires patience and strategy.

Perfect work!

Lovely idea. It might help to have more things that the Mage could do besides being a potion carrier, but otherwise quite nice!

This is a very cute game and I loved the concept - it made you think a few steps ahead which is a victory in my book as far as design is concerned. The music was very pleasant, as were the sounds and the art. It all came together to be a very relaxing experience. I would love to see this concept expanded upon with other block types or objectives! I think you really have something neat on your hands here.

This is actually great! Very different way of delivering something, loved the simple pixel art and the mechanics fused with the theme and tetris. Just great job!

Cool innovative take on Tetris. Impressive game to make in 48 hours, I applaud! But, the elephant in the room = main problem is that single mistake can ruin your whole level and there is no reset button. In my opinion this is important to add so more people can enjoy the game and not rage quit because of it

Pros
- pixel art is looking very nice
- easy controls

Cons
- easy to soft lock yourself

This is such a cool idea for a game! The only issue I found is you can get the wizard trapped and I didn't know how to restart.

always interesting to see fresh takes on tetris. I honestly never used the "lock in place" feature, as it caused more problems then it solved. The art and variety of pieces was nice!

@saviqq @tim-sims I should have made it more obvious, but in the pause menu, there is a rest / retry button. The problem is, that in the web-build ESC is used to quit fullscreen, so the player have to press it two times.
I knew this problem and with more time I would have made a better solution.

Cool idea!!

But it's a bit easy to stash all the tiles that I don't want in the top corners. Maybe don't allow tiles to be placed in the air? But not sure, if it's too hard then

Good job with the game!

It reminds me a little bit of Lemmings in a way!
The music was very relaxing and planning out + building the path and timing it for the wizard's movements was fun! One of my personal favorites for this jam - the art is clean and pleasing and the music sets a relaxing puzzle-solving mood :)
