Derilicity Delivery by Jag

[raw]
made by Jag for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Derilicity Delivery is a post-apocalyptic driving game where you play as Cynthia Vai, a hazardous materials delivery driver.

portraitnormalsmall.png

Cruise around the long abandoned city of Derelicity, completing deliveries that get progressively more challenging.

image.png

Pull up to a package delivery station to start your delivery.

ss4.png

Cynthia is one of few daring delivery drivers who would attempt to deliver hazardous materials that decay rapidly. Drive to the drop-off location as quickly as you can before your package loses integrity and crumbles to dust.

ss5.png

Each type of hazardous material reacts differently. Some require you to perform stunt jumps to maintain their integrity, while others increase their integrity by performing drifts!

Can you complete all 16 deliveries?

Derilicity Delivery was created in 3-days for Ludum Dare 53. All assets used were created by members of the team and no plugins were used. We hope you will have an enjoyable time cruising around our derelict city!

ooo~ this was some fun!

here's a few highlights:
- glowy speedbar on the spoiler of the car
- upgrades making missions unique!
- reactive character to keep you company while you drive

a few things to be improved:
- i'd love reverse to be backwards instead of a different key (e.g. Q or E)
- it'd be fun if the main character could give you the tutorial / mission info

overall a pretty solid game~

Love the smoke vfx and drifting. E is an interesting choice for reverse though

Game feels amazing to play, mood is great and is aided a lot by the music and sound effects, the controls layout on the keyboard is something to get used to, having the option to change the input keys would be awesome. Solid game.

Game is really nice, visual and environment on the top. I like the lore and gameplay but I think control is little hard : like Q key for backward move and hard car physics. For my opinion music is average, otherwise game is really good. Nice job!

I enjoyed playing this a lot! The unique twists provided by the different cargos mixed up the gameplay nicely, though heavy was incredibly annoying, hah. It was difficult to figure out where to go - I imagine that's part of the point, but I would have appreciated some kind of distance indicator along with the direction arrow. That would help the player decide when to take a turn so they don't end up criss-crossing back and forth looking for the target.

@nuin @projectcolorball Thank you for playing the game!

@ha-kuro @alexander-tan @fire-steam-studio @dk-game-labs Thank you for such great feedback and kind words! I have added the ability to reverse with "S" now as well as multiple other changes. Hopefully the game will feel a lot more fun than it was before!

@bmacintosh Thank you so much for playing! I took your suggestion and added an indicator for distance to the target and it definitely helped a lot. Thank you so much for the advice. I hope you'll try the new version if you get the chance!

@jag after playing the updated game, the controls on key board feel much more intuitive and natural. Much more time was spent playing the game instead of trying to remember the controls awesome job.

This game looks absolutely gorgeous. Your team deserves like 10 high-fives for pulling this off in the jam period. The music is also beautifully composed, although I think the track that plays when you're not delivering a package feels a bit too high-spirited for a post apocalyptic setting? I think that the gameplay falls a bit short for a couple of reasons. For one, I feel like the world design doesn't contribute very well to the driving gameplay. There's very few straightaways and more often than not I feel like I need to lose all my speed to get somewhere, which isn't fun when the car feels so good to go quickly with. It's hard to tell where you're supposed to go without a minimap, as there are lots of tight streets with only one way in / out. I also got screwed over by alleyways a *lot*. I assumed that I could squeeze through them if my car would fit, so I could waste a little time to get past a row of buildings, but almost all of them had clutter in them that stopped me from going fully through, and I wasted a ton of time backing out of them. I think that allowing the player to drive right past the pickup / drop points instead of slowing down would be more satisfying as well. The game had a nasty habit of forcing me to 180 right after picking up a package, which was frustrating. With such an interesting world and character, I would have loved to see more story / character development. I think that having the character on the screen 24/7 was a missed opportunity for expositioning as you were driving around. Maybe if you pushed her to the corner and had textboxes occasionally run across the bottom of the screen from her? I really enjoyed the aesthetic, and the gameplay had a strong concept that could be pushed further with some tweaks. Good job!

I tried to run it but it didn't work for me, however it looks really nice and I love driving games. I'm not sure why it wouldn't run properly.

Hey @sarah was there a specific error message you received?

@jag it just said something like it couldnt run, it didn't seem very specific

@sarah I'm sorry about that 😟 I'm not sure why that would happen, it could possibly be some missing DirectX file or maybe a graphics card firmware update that's needed. Because the game implements Unreal's Lumen lighting, it limits the hardware that can run it...

I'm probably biased because I love racing games, but I had fun playing. It was great and even more so for a game jam!
Playing with a controller felt pretty natural. Once I got more comfortable with the controls and the map layout, I could start taking some turns at full speed with boost and drift - and it felt so good! Great job to the team! :fire:

First, these are Amazing graphics ! The music is also good to the ambiant and not too repetitive.
The idea to modify the physics of the vehicule with the constraint of your delivery is interesting.
The description to explain it is good to help, but when you have many constraint there is only one display, and i forget the influence of the other along the mission.
There is no progression indicator, if i hadnot seen on the page "make 16 delivery" i will stop before the end for sure.
The character is well drawn but mute, it's a shame one or two line of dialogs to tell something will add more story/ambiant/objective to the game.
The Physics of the car need adjustement, drive is not very funny, it difficults to turn, and when i take speed, i finish by a crash so i drive slow to finish the game (i use drift but it's not very helpfull).
"Unreal Engine" Physics ????? I also play fortnite and this kind of problem is current (not really your fault), but it also bad.Fortunally the small items don''t have collision box ^^ that make the task easier.

But i finished your game, and if you correct these point than can be very interesting game (the text on the screen is not really lisible because of too much light effet).

My suggestion of amelioration :

Sorry, due to technical reasons (aka my PC being more like a toaster) this game turns out to a natural slideshow for me :sob: Hope next time I'll be able to check it out

Huge work, can make a full play game in this type of ambience. Costy for the perfomance, though. Loved the style, overall. But would definitely change the music, or add more tunes with a deeper cyber-synth-bladerunner-space-hop vibe.

Love the graphics! I also love the variety of the missions! I gave the game a perfect score. I feel like the car doesn't have weight transfer though? I tried a Scandinavian flick multiple times and it didn't work.

Excellent work considering the assets are from scratch but the car feel is a little...off?

I'm amazed by the environment and I really like the feel of the car. I think it's super impressive for a game jam and like the others my only small gripe is the audio haha. Really amazing work!!
