Cooking is Relaxing by Lenan

[raw]
made by Lenan for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Manage your ingredients, Make dishes and Deliver it to clients.

Sounds simple, but there's a catch, the ingredients are only available for some time before the truck leaves with them. Don't worry the delivery truck comes back so you can restock the ingredients.

Your objective: Serve as many clients as possible

Dev comment:

Well, well, well if it isn't the consequences of my own actions. Decided to change engines, from unity to godot, knowing nothing about godot. Not the brightest idea, had a lot of trouble getting the hang of godot and had to focus exclusively in learning how to code using godot.

Overall 4/10 experience, would not recommend.

alright! the music definetly feels relaxing! (even though I feel a bit rushed bc of the gameplay lol) but it's a cute small game! congrats!

Fun little game - though I feel the timing is a bit off, I spent a while waiting for the delivery truck when I ran out of ingredients (Though I spent the entire time unloading the truck into storage beforehand) Also the level feels a bit large, the walk from the truck to storage takes a good while in game time.

@kabura thank you for the feedback. That's exactly the feeling that i wanted to pass with the game, looking like a relaxing game but being pretty stressfull, unfortunately i couldn't add the cooking/recipe and clients leaving parts to make it even more stressfull.

Hello Lenan thank you for letting me play your game. It was a good experience for a prototype and the main appeal for me was the design and mood. I think the vibe is very cute and awesome!

I think maybe the scope was too big for the game and the interactions could have been made a little more clear on what to do. Simplifying the ingredients might be a good place to start.

If this was made into a full game I think you should continue to focus on your amazing design and inter work that with the game play. I'd love to see more intricate drawings of ingredients or things in the kitchen. Thanks for letting me play your ludum dare game!!

That was pleasant although I can see you ran out of time before you got everything you wanted to get done. Felt like the level could've been a bit smaller and then the different aspects of the gameplay would've flowed into eachother a bit more smoothly.

@larrymartinjr unfortunately i learned too late that godot 4 had issues exporting to web and some devices couldn't run games exported properly

This game gives me some complicated feelings. I did initially try to play without seeing the instructions typed out, so I was very confused on what the pace of the game was supposed to be. After I did read the instructions, I realized many of the interactable tools were not able to be integrated into the game flow. What is currently present is rather interesting however!

The two phases of restocking supplies into your storage room is equivalent to a mad dash, motivated by what you can see customers wanting. Without supplies to get, you have time to serve the food and organize the storage room in preparation for the next mad dash for supplies. I found this gameplay loop rather enjoyable and got my 500 dollars, and makes me think the game is the exact opposite of relaxing!

If you could streamline the actual gathering of ingredients to be more than just walking back and forth, you may have a different kind of fun game here. I would also say only one ingredient per box, to make the organization aspect take more thought to optimize. Good work!

@callbackthefunction Sorry about the inconvenience, it's an issue with godot 4 that some devices can't run the web export. Learned about it when it was too late

@shooting-star it's working as expected. The game has 2 phases, a first one where you stock ingredients and a second one where you serve the ingredients to clients. For more detailed instructions you can read the how to play section on wall of text (not ideal) that i had to put in the game page because the export broke the in-game how to play

I got and error as soon as it starts -> file does not exist: 'res://assets/data/how_to_play.txt' :-(

@sebhulhu you can just ignore this error, it is an error that appeared when i exported the game to web, you can just click play and it'll work nomally. The instructions that should be there are on the itch and ludum dare page

Cute game, I would like to see in what direction you would have taken the cooking aspect with the different workstations!

I appreciated the experience of this cozy but yet stressfull cooking game. At first I did not completly understand but afterwards I found out where you've explained the commands. Ist a very nice idea, with appealing and much input which is really hard in such a short time. I noticed that the screen gives back an error when one presses the big playbutton, but it works with the appearing smaller one. At the end of the day I was just thrown back into the menue, any short appreciation of what one achieved the day would have been nice but I totally get that that probably was a time issue (we had the same problem). Thanks for letting me testing, all in all I really like your game for the ambience and functionality (once one understand the gameplay - which happens fast enough, it's easy and fun to play)

Overall a cute and cozy little kitchen game. It wasn't immediately clear how to play but once I got the hang of it , it was fun stocking the right food and delivering them while the truck was away, good gameplay loop!

> Decided to change engines, from unity to godot, knowing nothing about godot

I think it was a great idea, kinda forces you to learn under pressure  I'd be curious to hear your experiences as I've been looking at godot for a while (but alas stuck with unity this jam myself haha)

Thanks for the entry! I love food service games, and the restaurant ambiance certainly was relaxing. The delivery timer added a good amount of pressure when the shipments were present. In my playthrough, I read the written instructions in your post but only glanced at the screenshots. The controls worked well, but I didn't pick up immediately how to plate the food and tried to plate and deliver ingredients one-by-one. I agree with some previous comments about timing/waiting for a while with no ingredients in between deliveries, so that could be rebalanced to really elevate the gameplay. Nice job!

This was a fun game. Tough to get enough food delivered before the timer restock timer went off, especially when I grab the wrong ingredient. Just a skill issue though. :') Nice work guys.

Loved the level layout and sounds. Could be more enjoyable if the mechanic on ingredient availability was different. I found myself waiting around a lot for the next delivery. Could one idea be to have a timer per client but more regular deliveries?
