Popostee by LouieJams

[raw]
made by LouieJams for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Newer version include bug fixes and sound!

ADDED WEB VERSION!

My solo entry for Ludum Dare 53! I wanted to try and learn some physics this time (my last jam I learnt about using pro gen). I am overall happy with the outcome but would of liked to add maybe another 1 or 2 prompt boxes for orders and a different level!

I hope you enjoy my entry!

Aw yea, like @edenic666 said: SO CUTE!

This is so cool because we also did a match / merge game and seeing how different your interpretation was is refreshing. Also nice to see a physics-based take on matching.

My favourite moment is where you feel like you've got a handle on how to delivery stuff and then you notice the left-most box filling and and it's like "oh dear ... it's going to overflow!"

Really nice touch with the title screen

fun idea, i love how we're slowly flooded! i was not able to distinguish some different yet close colors so it was a bit hard sometimes, but overall, it was a cool game to play, and i see the addictive potential of it!!

a good hit on the topic. there was a little lack of training at the beginning of the game. as an artist, I noticed a cool pixel art and a good colour palette. good job!

nice one! Really cute art! Maybe you should try to add more connexion between the delivery and match-3 parts? But yeah, nice entry!

@ashashza I havent used physics before so really wanted to try it out! I really spent too much time playing with the physics myself and thought I should allow the container to overflow, even if its just for abit, because I found it kinda satisfying when they would spill over the top haha!

@amarokczukay Thanks for the input! Someone else has also mentioned this! I really enjoy using pastelly desaturated colours in my art but I realised that maybe I should have tried to define them a little more. Especially the yellow/orange and purple/pink!

@polinachrr Thanks for the feedback! In my previous jam games, i have tried to include a page just before the game room (and after the menu) that has a more instructions on it with vidsuals aids, unfortuantely i didnt get round to doing that this time. I have tried to add even more info in the game description for players!

@bobo-oh Thanks for playing! Originally I thought you could match the 3 in the container and they would "appear" in the box, but struggled to keep track of which ones the players had poped and whther or not they met the requirements, because the match mechnic is still a little wobbly! I also wanted the player to be able to grab and move stuff around and so wanted to give the player a "reason" to have that as an option.
If I was to think on it more, I'm sure there would be a way I could connect it better as you suggest :D

Very cute, interesting take on the match 3 genre! I think it could've used some music, but I enjoyed playing it nonetheless :)

Really beautiful game. Not sure what the best strat is. I did 10K with 14 parcels sent, but it didn't feel like it matters. Because in the end, it was just fun to pop the cute orbs while sometimes packing stuff :D Great entry !

I like how calm this game feels, even though there is a timer it's not really a problem, the art style is 5/5 for me I really like it, and the physics are pretty decent, I feel like the poping mechanic where same creatures near each other get poped is harder than it looks to implement lol, I wish there was more to the game in terms of things to do but I think you did an awesome work

Managed to get 16 points! Had trouble getting used to the control scheme that used both LMB and RMB, but once I figured it out it was a blast.

Great entry! Love everything about the aesthetic. The background, the screen border, and the design of all of the interactable objects and UI works really well together. The gameplay is a nice twist on the classic match-3 style mechanic, and overall the game has nice relaxing vibe to it. Also, having the title screen be interactive was a great way to get a player familiar with the controls.

Random idea for a future version - the area that the orbs fall into could have a face on it like the other machines. As the area fills up, the facial expressions could change in order to tell the player how close to overflowing it is.

As everyone else said, super cute game! Good job with the physics and overall mechanics of the game, it was really inventive! I got a highscore of 20 deliveries.

I really liked the tensions between needing to pop bubbles to stop from overflowing vs take the time to pack and send boxes to actually get score. Neat! Also the art was very cute.

Really awesome art style! I was confused for like 2 minutes until I tried clicking the right mouse button (ye I know you put it in the description, I'm guilty!).
One problem for me is that that the constant left clicking is starting to hurt my wrist  :skull:

Love the art style! It might have been nice to have some music. This is really relaxing to play; I think it could maybe have a bit more depth (maybe bigger orders?), but what's here is very good. Nice work on this :)

Played this for a lot longer than I usually play jam games. I liked having to manage the left side and the right side but also that all the mechanics on the right required me to do extra bits instead of automating away that gameplay. Also the art is great too, nice job.

Loved the art style and the concept was pretty neat. It felt a bit flat after a while. I thing some music etc might go some way to correcting that. Good job
