Starbound ClawShell Service by CursedEmbassy

made by CursedEmbassy for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

NOTE - MY DUMBASS FORGOT TO ADD MOUSE CLICK TO THE X BUTTON, YOU CAN STILL PRESS ESC OR B (CONTROLLER) TO RETURN TO MAIN MENU ALSO HTML5 VERSION (itch.io) IS A BIT BUGGY, SO I RECCOMEND USING GX, XBOX OR WINDOWS!!

The Revenge of the lobster boss. You read that right! The lobster man is back and angrier than ever! Now with his very own postal service, he's striving to become the best of the best! HOWEVER, and this a big however, hence the capital letters, lobster boss has a robot working for him that isn't very nice to him. (Sad face in the chat pls)

Your job, as a new hire is to make sure you can deliver packages fast and efficiently! You'll be instructed to sort these badboys out.image<em>2023-05-02</em>153706605.png this dude's your friend. (usually)

To sort packages, let's just pretend you're.. an idiot.. press the corresponding button to match the package to the package box.image<em>2023-05-02</em>153846789.png Mind the timer, you're on a timer here, unless that was difficult to pick up as well. Matter of fact, just taking that image took me a few attempts, because I wasn't fast enough.

That out of the way, you'll now have to embark on the journey to your packages destination. But watch out, some jackass has put cones everywhere. image<em>2023-05-02</em>154010591.png avoid them by jumping over them. (duh, why am I even writing this, there's instructions in the game..)

Now for the fun part: you gonna have to drift, like full on tokyobutnotintokyo drift. (idk, I don't watch anime)

Score over 10, or you suck.

Features: Lobster man that bullies robot. Countless hours of verbal abuse towards ChatGPT Nifty controller support* Ported to absurd consoles you probably never gonna try. EPIC mailman rap.

Easter eggs: 2 Continue reading if you're a lame-o spoiler robin.

Mailman Rap: Press the logo in the main HUB, or on controller press ABXY at the same time until the song changes.

Work for DHL: Score under 10 points, and something will happen**

*For nintendo switch to work, you need to use the console in handheld and with joycons attached. You also need Atmosphere or a custom firmware patch to run this. This NSP is unsigned, and should run without the need of sigpatches, but let's face it, you're probably a pirate anyway if you got atmosphere and know how to install NSP files. (Or you can use emulator). Switch also uses XBOX layout, so make sure you either use a thirdparty controller (with MissionControl, or map it accordingly in your emulator.) NO asking for keys or nca's. you only get the NSP. Also this is not a forum for switch help, so if you have no idea where to start, use another version! HTML5 also doesn't support controller! It's a direct port.

**probably not gonna work on switch.

Cheat-sheet Some of you have expressed that some of the functions are less obvious than I anticipated. To help people understand better, here's a few notes.

Packages are oriented the same way as in the first mini game. Remember them, or look at the picture above if you forget.)

Packages are delivered to the mailbox, not the entire house, so drive up the house (using the arrow keys, lame I know) and press the button to the corresponding package from stage 1.

The game was developed with a controller, because last time, I added controller, it was as a last minute option, and it got messy. So if you have a controller available, I recommend using that if you're using any version apart from HTML5, which only works with keyboard and mouse.

Have fun - This is the most important one, as failure to have fun will result in Lobster boss coming to your house and anchor his claw up your metal butt!

Hahaha the dialogue is great "At least I'm not a fucking lobster" got me laughing out loud :DD

After driving the cart, the game seems to froze on me with no way to continue :/

So its punishment if you score high in the first area, LOL. Is he saying I am from Melmac when delivering the mail? Good graphics and sound. Controls were annoying in the last stage but that is only because I had to deliver so much mail and I was on keyboard. Probably would have been better if I used controller. The delivery on the third stage is not intuitive. You have a highlight with an exclamation mark indicating where the delivery is supposed to go but it can only be delivered next to the small house not the big object. Took a couple of tried to figure that out. I was disappointed there was no comment from the lobster or the robot at the end. Good game I had fun. Thanks. P.S. Also there was no way to exit the game when completed. The X at the bottom did nothing

I loved the graphics, color scheme, and the audio! The conversation at the beginning made me laugh too. I did get a little stuck at the part with the circular road (same screenshot as BmanStudio above). I wouldn't mind having visual text on screen when characters are talking too, since with the voices (which I loved!) it could be hard to understand at times. Overall I got a fun chuckle out of this and really liked it!

I also had a good laugh when reading the conversation at the start!
As the others, I did get confused at the circular place mentioned above, but up till there it was very enjoyable and funny game !
Great job on the voices and graphics, I loved them !
I must agree that maybe adding subtitles could be helpful.
Congratulations !

@milano23 - Yeah, I forgot to add mouseclick. it was intended to have that, but I'm an idiot, so ESC is your friend here lol. The delivery area is around the mailboxes, so I understand that can be a little confusing. The controls were mainly meant (This parts also to @samoussa and @perryseit) The controls were mainly used and tested for controller, and adding arrow key driving was like a last minute thing because I almost forgot lol. it's a lot easier to drive with a controller, I understand not everyone has controllers lol but I made it with the intentions of being able to port it to as absurdly many platforms as possible lol Thanks for playing tho <3

The art is good, the voices were not always easy to understand and I just got stuck on a screen that would not let me do anything.

Fun bunch of minigames! And cute (must be something wrong with my cuteness detector) voice.

The first 2 levels were a liitle too slow for the minigames genre though.

@larrymartinjr which version did you play?

Fun entry. I must admit though that I was quite confused about the delivery rules on the last part of the game so I just mashed all XYAB buttons when close to the lit-up house. Perhaps it wasn't even the house but the mailbox that was the target?

@local-minimum aye, I thought it would be more obvious.. I probably should have had some clearer directions.. but yeah, it's the mailbox that's the target here, the mailboxes has a radius where they'll accept your input, and the input matches the input from the firts mini game. thanks for playing <3

Cool game, i enjoyed the dialogue between the lobster and robot (though I would have liked subtitles as I didn't quite understand some of their lines). The driving part could definitely use a bit of polish, and it was a bit weird that I still had to press the correct WASD button to deliver the parcels and without any prompt (or punishment for hitting the wrong button). By the end of the last part I found myself wishing I didn't get so many parcels in the first part haha. But overall I liked it, good job! I'm a mailman, I'm a mailman.

Hilarious little game! I got stuck at the last part (I think game froze), but overall, I enjoyed my time. Well done!

Played the Web version and got stuck on the part after the jumping. Dialogue was pretty hard to understand because of all the filters and stuff on the voices, so subtitles would really help here. It's pretty confusing playing on keyboard and seeing X/Y/A/B next to the WASD, especially since A is shared between the two.

@3ggplant yes, I was gonna add a script that detected wether or not you had a controller connected, and just omit it from the HTML5 version alltogether, cos it doesn't work there, but ran out of time lol. thanks for playing!

Chaotic! So much stuff, in game and out (wow, all the consoles!). Sounds like you all had a lot of fun making this. Had some fun playing too, just a couple of issues that seem to have been common based on the comments.

Amazing how you made such as a repetitive music track somehow not be grating and actually a bit of a bop, and the hidden rap on top!

Not sure I can add a lot that hasn't already been said, but I too would've liked subtitles since the effects muffled the words a bit. And just in general the controls/explanations. But cool stuff, well done, and props for all the platforms!

I love the sound design and humor, it gives your game unique identity 😁 I had some trouble understanding everything too, but I love how you don't take too seriously. Awesome work!
