Parcel Panic by icch_howw

[raw]
made by icch_howw for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Greetings!

I am looking for a new employee to help fill delivery trucks with all sorts of parcels. Do you think you have the necessary knowledge and skill to take the job? This is an entry level job that requires 10 years of experience and a master's degree in science.

Benefits include:

  • Almost half of minimum wage
  • 12 hour days, 7 days a week
  • 3 minute breaks every 4 hours
  • Occasionally you can experience how it feels to be close to a bomb explosion

How to play

The game contains a "How to play" section in the main menu, but the basic gist of it is:

Drag parcels from the facility into the delivery truck or shred them if they don't have a label. Make sure to send the truck on it's way before any of the parcels expire and be especially careful of bomb parcels. We should probably report those to the authorities, but if they are not within our facility anymore, they are not our problem anymore ;)

Controls

  • Left mouse button to drag parcels around
  • Mouse scroll or Q+E to rotate the grabbed parcel

HowTo.png Ohhh that's how that works!

Game2.png Gotta shred them

Boom.png Something exploded over there, hope I wasn't responsible

Nice work! It makes my play it with four hands. But I hope I can arrange the boxes neatly instead of piling them up. The car that departures just boom outside the window hahah.

This is an excellently designed jam game! It makes for a tense RE4 item organizer without any of the horror elements! Well balanced, really fun to play, nicely polished, great job!

Wow loved your game.
Sending out bombs hahah and hate the big package. If you pick up a package you have to do something with that package would be great if you can put it back or is that a design choice.

Ok played it to long :)

@senso Having a way to put it back would indeed be a good idea, but I didn't find a good way to do it. The space you grab it from will be occupied as soon as you pick it up, so I can't put it back there. Could also just drop it in from the top again, but that would be confusing... Thank you for your feedback though and thanks for playing so long^^

Really nice game! The tension felt very good, and I love how you lean into the inherent comedy of physics games. The presentation is really well done, and I love all of the juice you added to the game. The mechanic of discarding certain packages works really well to keep the player on their toes. Great entry!

Survived around 2 minutes.

I feel soo bad for the trucks that were forced to mail the pipebombs for their victims lol

Survived for 2:33! Very fun game, I laughed very hard when a truck departed with a bomb, I certainly wasn't expecting it lmao
The graphics and menus are clean, the mood and humor is definitely there, and the mechanics are clever. Well done!

The game is very good, but it's a little difficult to have time to fill the car and not let anything explode. thanks for the game

very fun, there's quite a few things to keep track of but not too many that it feels overwhelming, I enjoyed the bombs for the extra layer of panic

nice fast-paced game, it's increasingly difficult and past 2 minutes my brain just stops working. i think i won't be able to work at amazon (but at least i don't have to manipulate **bombs**)

This is a fun game. I made it to 2:44, and it felt very panicky at the end. The gameplay is well done, and the audio is really good.

Super well polished game. Art is simple but neat. It matched well with the vibe of the game. I loved the explosion sound with the screen shake and the bright light when delivering bombs. I laughed out loud the first time it happened. The controls are a little finicking with the click and hold to pickup and the bounds of the edges of the truck felt a little off. I would rather it have been click to pickup and click to drop because it felt like it wasn't releasing when I wanted it to. All minor gripes. The game was very addicting to play. Spectacular job! This was my best attempt ![packagebomb.PNG](///raw/3ab/31/z/5aee2.png)

Great entry! Music and graphics fit well to the game. I had fun playing it.
At first I thought it was like Tetris and didn't send the truck away, then I read the description once again and got this score:

Very impressive puzzle game! It has a decent amount mechanics to keep track of which makes the core gameplay really engaging. The UI and theming are also very solid. Great work!

I thought I did something wrong at the first explosion, I guess it's just part of the job though! Very fun game, it gets pretty hectic and panicky sorting through all these parcels. The game feels nice and smooth and I love how explosions make everything shift and shake everywhere.

Good job on this solo entry!

Very polished! I liked the sound effects, gameplay, and the overall game feel -- it was very satisfying.

I was a bit confused by the package bombs, they seemed a bit unnecessary. At first I thought that I was supposed to shred them, but it seems like they're the same as regular packages? Because it's a bomb with an explosion, I thought there would be some negative effect, but I could never figure out what it was.

I also think that the pace of trucks returning is fast enough that I never really did anything tetris-like with the space. If the packages had a longer expiration, and the trucks were really slow to return, I think that would encourage more play where I would try and pack a truck as full as I could. The way it is right now, things move so fast (and the truck returns so fast) that it seemed more about how fast I could drag boxes into the truck and hit go, even when the truck was mostly empty.

Not bad game, it has quite meditative game play in the core, and yet becomes quite challenging over time. Good job.

Oh wow this was so much more fun than I expected it to be. The one gripe I have is that the shredder drop zone feels a bit finicky and sometimes it's harder than it should be to put something in the truck, like the massive box it feels like you have to be more precise than I would expect. Overall though I had a lot of fun and caught myself playing it for a while
