All About That Buzz is a top-down, bite-sized Action RPG made in 3 days for Ludum Dare 53: Delivery!

This game was made by only one person (ME!), and was originally concepted for Compo but yes, I overscoped (by A LOT). I made everything from scratch for this jam, not limited to, but including: Graphics, Audio, Design and Programming.

The Story

The Bees started a revolution and are refusing to pollinate, mostly because of rebel groups and the Big Bog social media influence. Flowers started withering and are calling for help, while bees fight each other over the whole conundrum. The main character is an avid fan of the Flower Pop Band "Happy Flower", and is sick and tired of letting the flowers die. Deliver pollen to your friendly neighborhood flowers to reanimate and save them, one by one!

How was the theme implemented?

You are a bee with the task of delivering stolen pollen back to flowers.

How to Play?

W/A/S/D or Arrow Keys to Move Spacebar / Left Click to Interact with objects and treasure chests. Your can also play with a gamepad.

Basic Tips

  • You cannot have more than 3 weapons, but if you pick a 4th, the weakest one will be replaced.
  • If you run out of pollen, kill more enemies!
  • Some flowers require a lot of pollen, and you may need to do multiple trips to save them.
  • Stats are randomly distributed when you level up, but each and everyone of them are pretty useful.
  • Enemies do respawn if you leave a room.

Really cool game and idea! The sound effects got really overlapping when there were a lot of enemies in the room also the boss felt a bit too fast. I really loved the jokes and dialogues, great entry!

Very fun game! I only managed to beat it by finding a glitch to get where the last enemy couldn't get to me, but it was good!

Another bee game!
I love the humour and setting.
The gameplay is little more than avoiding being hit. I struggled against the boss, going in circles but getting hit nonetheless.

Good job for 3 days, though!

I was originally planning a dodge mechanic and a skill tree as well, but oh boy, this was too much already haha

I was also undecided about what to do with the boss: since the main character stats were random, there is a non-zero chance that you can end up with lots of defense and AoE and in this case the boss is definitely going to be harder. Farming can alleviate that but perhaps the dodge mechanic would be the silver bullet to close this design gap hehe

Either way, I'm super happy with the final product, and I'm glad people are enjoying it as well. Thanks! You made my daisy :upside_down:

Cool entry. I don't know if I missed anything but upon pollinating the 3 flowers in the cave I wasn't quite sure what next to do. Well written and fun to play. There were some glitches with loot not being interactable if, e.g. if it ended up too far down on the screen and such and was unsure if there was any way to know or decide how picking up skills would replace which existing and so on.

@local-minimum Killing the "boss" spawns the big flower which has the "congrats you finished it" line and all that hehe

I planned to make it more evident that it was a boss (and planned to close the room automatically, play another song, etc) but I was out of thyme.

This game has great art and completeness! It's really impressive that one person can accomplish all of this. While playing, I encountered two problems: one is that the pp and boxes can fall outside of the screen and cannot be collected, and the other is that when entering a walled room for the second time, it has infinite health. Overall, it's a great game, and I look forward to future updates!

Great work, very impressive considering you made this alone! I liked the idle animation of the bee, and the instructions on the carpet in the intro area were a smart idea. With the combat it would be nice in the future to add some other options other than running away while the auto-shoot activates. For example maybe you have a bar you can fill that when activated gives you temporary invincibility? But overall amazing effort!

Love this! Great puns. The attacking system is interesting and felt pretty cool. Sometimes the pollen would drop too close to the bottom bar with all of your stats and I was unable to pick it up.

The game is very good. Dialogs are funny. However I've found it too grindy. I've achieved lvl 11, but got no spd upgrades, so the boss was impossible for me. I managed to kill him by cheesing and hiding behind the chests and making the boss stuck. The game would also lag a bit whenever enemy was killed.

boss arena was too small so it was hard to avoid taking damage and there seemed to be no higher level than 11. apart from those gripes i would say this is a perfect submission, All the pieces are there and it has originality and polish.
