Delivery Witch by kgurniak91
This is my first time participating in Ludum Dare (and game jams overall). When the theme was announced my mind went blank. I couldn't come up with any good ideas, I've made some small prototypes, hated them and then decided to quit on the first day. But then the next day (today) the idea struck me while eating breakfast and I liked it! So I got to work from scratch and completed it in several hours.

My idea is that you play as a witch that has to deliver packages. Inspired by anime Kiki's Delivery Service, obviously. The gimmick is that you can pick up and drop packages in exchange for your multiple jumps ability. After picking up 3 packages you can only glide from the cliff without jumping. The goal is to deliver all 3 packages to the platform on the far right of the level, which involves gliding over a pit with deadly spikes.
How to play: * Left/Right arrows - move * Space - jump (but you can always glide from the cliff) * Z - pick up package (in exchange for 1 of the 3 multi-jumps) * X - drop package (regain multi-jump) * R - restart level * ESC - quit
Game made in Godot. Art made in paint.net. Sound effects generated in Bfxr. There was music at one point (generated from abundant-music website but I wasn't sure if it was against the rules so I removed it)

Also, how did you manage to get your godot export to work in ludum dare, it wouldn't play for me. :(
@candlesan @hugetube thank you very much, yeah I think this mechanic with exchanging multi-jumps for packages has potential, maybe I'll revisit it in the future after gaining some experience and skills. I've got some ideas for new levels where you could for example: pick up stones to put them on platforms to unlock doors, drop package/stones them from high enough to destroy some barriers, pick up packages that grant some kind of powerups/bonuses as long as you hold them, different boxes weightinig different amounts and impacting movement, boss fights etc.
Only issue I had is that I did not first understand I needed to hold down space to jump, so I could not even get out from the pit with the boxes
This is a cute little prototype, could see a puzzle platformer built on this base. I'd encourage you to see if you could come up with another level or two leveraging these mechanics.
Controls are a bit slippery and the presentation is pretty basic, but for a few hours of work this is neat. Well done.
Quite a nice game for a one-day rush, well done!
I hereby welcome you to the Ludum Dare community! Hope that your entry will spark another attendance of yours next time :)
There is not much more I can tell about the game itself than others have already said. I treat and rate it as your process and time taken to participate in your first Game Jam.
A couple of things that you may take a look into:
- Jumping when standing on the box does not allow you to move in the air while jumping (quite weird bug)
- Maybe 2-3 levels design (introduction to mechanic > simple puzzle > advanced puzzle) could give you a nice setting stone for further development!
That being said, making and completing **your first game**, with actual logic and mechanics is a **priceless feeling**, so enjoy it! :video_game:
And hey! I liked the cute graphics
Good game!
also @sdelay can Godot 4 even export to web? I thought that was only available up to 3.5
ps: nice work, like the game idea
