THE HOLY SCANNER

In the holy scanner we follow Hermann, a close descendent from the greek god Hermes. Hermann has never been defeated at being employee of the month. But this month is not like the others. Will Hermann be able to rise above and beyond what was thought possible? Let's hope so! For the challenges ahead are not meant for mere mortals.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Omg, this was a rollercoaster of emotions! And I thought my life was difficult!" -Robert ten Brink, grammy award winning column writer

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Wow, I'm just blown away! I've never experienced anything this well orchestrated in my entire life!" -Christopher Walken, first conductor of the Uruguayan philharmonic orchestra.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Great story, great game, amazing delivery man! Some people could improve on their communication..." -Hermann, delivery man of the month.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "10/10 every single playthrough. It just messes you up emotionally. Worth it every single time though." -Frank de Boer, Grammy award winning dutch farmer.4bij5.png

Teun: Programmer (basically everything) Koos: Art Bart: Music

Addition after deadline: Added a WebGL build with some bugs fixed that went under the radar during the stress of the last hours. Bats are a little less crazy now. Added a short delay before being able to upgrade to prevent accidentally buying upgrades. The windows version is still the same version uploaded before the deadline.

Your about section made me laugh  10/10 agree with what Robert ten Brink said.

MY SWEET LOVEMAKING MACHINE OF A CHILD needs to see a surgeon, his poor legs.

Dialogue is great & full points for humor. One small gripe is it's easy to accidentally click on an upgrade, which I did several times. I hope Hermann gets recognition for his troubles.

Very funny artstyle/player controller. Did not expect a spooky twist on this game. Bats are hard to hit lol. Nice music and sound effects.

I love blasting away at the foul creatures that lurk in the dark (especially the bats!). The music is very fitting and thematic for the fast-paced, shooting-lasers-everywhere playstyle. Sometimes the menu opens while you're still firing and you purchase something random. I think there needs to be a short delay there. Personally I would have liked a more "pew" instead of "beep" for the scanner, but the sound is realistic. Great Game!

Not half bad- there's not a lot to it, but the balance job was pretty tight. My first run I got screwed because I just ran past a lot of the bats, which meant they were still there when I had to run like hell away from the bosses, so there's a little thought you have to put into it. One issue was, like poboy said, it's easy to accidentally click on an upgrade when you level up, since the screen comes up instantly while you're probably in the middle of spamming click on a bunch of enemies.

Verily, mine eyes have witnessed a most amusing game! Though the bats did vex me sorely, striking me down a fair few times, until I did discover the rapid fire gun technique, which should surely earn me the employee of the month award. The sounds, and the music in particular, were most excellent, and the graphics as well.

omg those bats! it felt a little unfair how they'd all fly in at once after a cut scene... looks and sounds amazing top work!

Very funny story. I loved the ending, but I was hoping that meant I got to play a second level and it just ended but I guess wanting another level is a good thing, right? I would like to be able to skip cutscenes quicker as I died a couple times and waiting was a pain.

Nice! The derpy legs and the humor in general were hilarious. Loved that aspect, and the overall vibe. I think the actual gameplay left a bit to be desired for me – it seemed either very easy (kill stuff off screen) or I would suddenly be swarmed by bats and die. I wasn't sure what triggered which, but the bats for sure were tough to deal with once there were one or two. The moment I started getting hit that was it.

Your game is absolutely hilarious  !

The music is pleasant and the graphics are great. The movement of the legs and the arms of the player made me laugh a lot haha.

The only problem was that your game don't support 1366x768 resolution and I can't read the dialogues. It's a shame, cause judging by the comments, they must have been pretty funny.

Overall, a nice entry! Good job!

@joao-marcello that's weird, the windows build had some UI issues that force it to only be able to play 1920x1080, but in the web build that's fixed, 1366x768 runs fine on my computer

@moritz-b @poboy @benedict-ide Thanks for the feedback! I've added a html version that has a little delay before you can buy upgrades, hopefully that will fix the accidental upgrades

Wow. Just wow. Did expect nothing. Got everything. The art is unique in that I never seen a game like that before. Hitboxes might be a bit strange sometime. But that is only so I can say something to improve :D
Ah no. The title screen clearly shows a continuous laser. I wasnt infinite fire rate and not just small laser blips (and why are they affected by gravity??). Maybe I should have focused my level ups on fire rate. why didn't I do that... ok time to try one more time

One of the best entries I've come across thus far! Everything about this game is charming. From the movement of the character, the scanning of the scanner, to the exquisite narrative it is entertaining throughout. The gameplay is decently engaging, I like the unique upgrades. Awesome game.

Loved the art and music. This kind of quirky stuff is great to me, and it's well executed. A side-scrolling run & gun is a simple concept, so the feel is everything, and this game sells it well with the atmosphere. Still, there wasn't much depth to the strategy with there being no platforming and limited need for dodging, but overall it's a great game.

I got myself laughing hard at this

the sound is really good but seems to be extra low for some reason (compared to others games I played)

neat cutscenes

the zoombies are really really hard to go through

oh man this IS hilarious

This game is stupid and I love it.

Criticism, I was spamming clicking the mouse because I didn't realize I only needed to hold it and skipped like 3 level ups because of that.

I really loved the writing, art style and audio. the guy's physics-based animations as his legs dragged along are hilarious. I agree with @ciderpunk about the post-cutscene bat onslaught feeling unfair.
