Package Panic by Porcus_Pie

[raw]
made by Porcus_Pie for Ludum Dare 53 (COMPO)

Stack, stack, STACK!

Time is low and your boss is breathing down your back. Stack the delivery trucks and get them out the door before it's too late. Try to stay on top of it, and get a high score Screen3.PNG

Description

Package Panic is an arcade style puzzle game focused on fast paced tetris-style stacking. Different shaped packages must be stacked into a van before being sent off for Delivery. The more you send off, the tighter the schedule gets until you eventually can't keep up! If you fill the truck more than half, you get a time bonus! The more full, the more time you get.

03/05 - Post-jam "bug" fix, I was told the game was quite small on some screens so I just made it bigger on itch.io. No gameplay changes at all.

Thoughts

This game I almost gave up on, but I am so happy I pushed through. Finally I managed to have a game with music! The game uses click and drag controls, with q & e for rotation and space to send out trucks. A tutorial can take you through how the game works. Enjoy!

Awesome game! I saw this come up on the Ludum Dare feed and saw you had a similar idea to me. I really love the art style of this game. The mechanics are easy to understand and use and it makes for a very addictive game. I keep trying to fill every space in the truck before sending it off for delivery. Nice job!

Overall a very good game. I liked the dialogue sound for the tutorial character. If I were to make any changes I would add a full screen button for HTML and make the time for the delivery trucks shorter.

Great game! Feels like something that would have been right at home on Game Boy Advance. Art style is great, only complaint is it wasn't super obvious whether tightly packing a truck vs sending off more packages was the better strategy.

Great entry. The tutorial is excellent, the art style endearing, and the music catchy. The game loop is fun, though the first time I played it I skipped the tutorial and didn't realise I could rotate blocks and so filled it quicker and sent out more trucks, which meant I got a higher score than doing actually trying to fill the trucks

Wow!
Music is great, art is great, and of course, the gameplay. amazing!
Really addictive, played it longer than I meant to.

The only feedback I have is that I'd like a fullscreen button on the itch.io page.

My score was 360.

This is great, fun and intuitive. I saw no reason to press deliver unless I ran out of space though. Love it!

Love the game and the vibrating energy of everything! I wish I could have figured out what to press to rotate pieces — I got stuck pretty fast dying over and over with lots of vertical 2-blocks and not able to do anything about it.

very fun game, feels like a fully fleshed out one at that, the gameplay loop is fun and addictive and the artstyle is great and gets the job done, very impressive for a game made in 3 days

The game looks very good and is extremely on theme. GJ for that! Gameplay is also neat, I love the time pressure and deploying almost fully loaded truck is really satisfying.

I have two suggestions tho, firstly the dialogue sound in the tutorial could be a little quieter. Secondly I think that this game would be really awesome with keyboard controls - for me it would make gameplay smoother and more challenging, I would also feel more control over what is happening. The game would then have a great potential for some real score chase.

Overall I think it's a very solid game, it's finished and really playable, I enjoyed it a lot!

Brilliant.

Always a handful of Tetris twists per jam, but never seen one this competent before! The modifications on the basic rules make perfect sense - the new pieces are good additions - and the use of theme is the best I've seen so far this rating period.

Graphics and sound all very good.

All in all, really well done. Complete digital crack as well, had a half dozen games :D

Had a lot of fun playing the game. My highscore was 246 and the time just sped away like hot butter, but everything in the game felt polished and the style fit perfectly. Only remark I have is I wish there would be a way to decrease the volume 😄

My best score was 53X ( can't remember last digit ) . The game was a lot of fun but I would love it even better with gravity. Having to put every block on floor was not fun. If I can let them fall in place it would feel a lot more like I'm rushing for loading a truck.

Fun game. I liked the way it ramped up the tension with the timer getting shorted. The last couple of trucks were rather empty. That music is going to be stuck in my head all day, very catchy.

Cool concept. Combining delivery with tetris, but with a twist. I quite enjoyed the acrcade style in this game. The pixel art was good and I enjoyed the music that was playing the background. Great work!

Interesting concept of using a tetris type of game but with more restriction. I love the idea.
The game feels really polished. The music and sfx fits the game perfectly.
It would have been nice to have some more challenges when getting a new truck, like some blocked tiles or something.

I had a lot of fun playing you game, It is a strong entry. Well done

I had a lot of fun playing this game! I was wondering at first how hard this could get since there was so much time to burn, but it definitely got hard at the end there. I got a score of 371.

The music was very fun and really fit the game's theme. It would have been cool to see an extra puzzle mode or something where the goal is to completely fill up the truck, but it seems like that would have been a little out of scope for this jam. Overall, it was really fun! Good luck with future jams!

this was so funnyyyyyyyyyyy i love tetris its actually impossible for me to stop playing, it could be a chill game cause its satisfying and timer its not that fast but god the music made me so nervous! it fits so well and sound effects were great as well. Great job! ill keep playing this one :sunglasses:

Well, my best is only 500, but it was fun to play. I like tetris because it was one of my first long playing games, and I find this game is an innovative view for this well-known (and overused) gamplay. While I was searching an idea, I had this one, but did not find how to use it as a good alternate tetris gameplay for the theme - now I see : this was how to do it! Well done!

342, I can't imagine how you're more than doubling that!

Really had fun with this one, nice job! I skipped the tutorial and then lost my first game pretty quick because I didn't immediately understand two things: I didn't realize you could rotate blocks, and I thought the truck would just auto-ship when the clock ran down.

I watched the tutorial after that, and it cleared everything up, but the game is very close to totally self-discoverable without a tutorial, just not quite.

The vibe is really good. It scratches a little of the tetris itch but with a huge twist since I don't have to live with my mistakes, and it's more of a balance between placing very quickly and also maintaining open options. The choice of three packages to place is also a very nice aspect that lets me hold things in reserve while I see how other situations develop.

Music was a nice, art is nice, and the core gameplay loop is really addictive with a nice pacing an a mix of mechanical urgency vs mental analysis. I found myself falling into a real flow state with this one. Very nicely done.
