Genius.
I like the painterly art style for the backgrounds, especially the first one with the big brush strokes! This is pretty chill, and the music suits the vibe perfectly.
Level checkpoints could be nice, so we don't have to start from the very beginning each time.
I'd like a little more hand-holding, or at least some direction that there isn't much direction. Some games can pull off the relaxing exploration vibe, but I can't tell what direction you were going for.
I thought the background art of the space scene was really evocative, and one of the songs clicked nicely with it. I thought that was the highlight of the experience. Unfortunately, I never saw if there was anything else to check out.
It definitely needs some dialing in with the controls and better checkpoints would be nice I agree. I did want the obstacles to be quite challenging and punishing in some cases, however testing against the time limit didn't grant me the opportunity to get that balance unfortunately.
Thanks!
Both the 2D art and the music were really nice. I also like the levels' "atmosphere". Was there an element of procedural generation at play? I think I saw segments of map and the seams between each segment so I started wondering if you were shuffling between these segments. In any case, well done and thank you for sharing your game!
I would suggest to reset vertical or horizontal velocity when the truck hits the game border, having to wait until you cancel all your momentum felt a little weird. Otherwise good job on making everything yourself, great submission!
The control being kind of slow is adding to the mood but since the screen is so limited you can't go very fast at all and it become a patience game
When reaching the end of the world, it would be nice to have the speed vector reset to zero.
That said, I do like the presentation of the game. The backgrounds have a cool painted looking style. The music works well with the chill vibes of drifting through space. And as I said, the slippery controls do work well for conveying the feel of being in space.
I think one of my late lessons learned was how I could store state well, so if my next entry is as difficult I'll balance it out with better checkpoints.
There is a small bug, where when you hit a rock, you can still keep going without pressing R, until you reach your destination.
But over all, good entry.
@pincushion Thanks for playing and enjoying the space squid (I think of it as an octopus - the cousin of the human programmer).
@gametrodon I appreciate the extra feedback! I guess I themed the obstacles to the planet's palette, but there's bad UX then. I'll keep it in mind for next time!
@zefphyer Thank you, I agree. The extra link is from some misplace optimism that I'd space the obstacles better and not have lots of sections of only background.
@hakro thanks for playing! Yes I have heard you can complete the level this way as well.
@milq thanks I appreciate the feedback! Agreed some extra movement and maybe abilities would be good. If I took it further I'd definitely add some variation to the obstacles/enemies.
The music loop was short but it didn't get annoying, so props for that.
I think feedback here has already been covered by previous commenters: levels run a little long, restarting from the very beginning is a pain, etc.
All that said, not bad for a first ludum dare! I'm sure you'll make better and better stuff in the future!

I was very worried about this, so I'm glad to hear it.
This was my second attempt actually, I ended up unfinished last time but hadn't booked the whole weekend properly. Definitely implemented some better time management practices but yeah, hopefully next one I have more game!
