Delivery G.U.I. by JpBaraky

[raw]
made by JpBaraky for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

From carrier pigeons to high technological robots and drones, humanity has proven it’s not always easy to deliver their messages (and now packages, right?)

At Delivery G.U.I the players will experience the challenges and adventures to provide a good delivery service while piloting G.U.I (Guided Unloader Intelligence)

Whether you're dealing with birds, trees or low battery life, to get five stars for your service, you'll need to dodge obstacles, observe delivery times and don't get the address wrong or compromise orders in this thriller.

How to Play:

  1. Start the game by clicking any button on the tittle screen.
  2. Use the W or Up arrow key to make the drone fly up and gain altitude.
  3. Use the S or Down arrow key to make the drone descend and land safely on the ground.
  4. Use the A or D arrow key to move the drone left or right.
  5. Press the SpaceBar to catch the package at the beginning or drop it when you reach your destination.
  6. Esc button to pause and unpause the game.

Tips:

  1. Be careful with the packages! They can be recovered or destroyed, which will impact the success of the delivery. Be sure to avoid any hazards that could damage or destroy the package.
  2. Be aware of the drone's battery life! If the battery runs out, the game will be over. Keep an eye on the battery indicator in the corner of the screen. To recharge the battery, you will need to return to the launch base. Land the drone on the base and wait for it to recharge before continuing your delivery.
  3. Once you reach the town, find the designated drop-off (a green area) point. Then, press the SpaceBar again to drop off the package and complete the delivery.
  4. After completing all deliveries, the game will display a star score indicating your performance during the delivery of the packages. The score will be based on factors such as delivery speed, package condition, battery life, and more. Aim for a high score to become the ultimate drone delivery champion!

Remember, the key to success in this game is to be careful and strategic with your movements. Don't rush or take unnecessary risks, as even the slightest mistake can lead to disaster! Good luck!

I hate birds and also old people. The core of a fun game is in there! I think if the drone control was a little more free/fast it would be a bit more exciting. I did like the art and level layout, it kinda felt like a lil adventure maybe just cos it looked like a fantasy setting even though there was a drone haha

I like the art! Feels a bit unpolished though! We had a similiar idea at a brainshtorming phase, glad someone made it :)
You should check out "art of screenshake" on youtube from a nuclear throne guy, I think you can apply a lot of little things from there to this game and it would be pretty juicy! (if you want to do post jam update)

Cool little game. I wonder why the villagers look low tech and the drone is high tech.

Why are they throwing stones at my drone! I just want to deliver packages. The audio is really catchy - great job :)

I liked this a lot. I would have liked another charging station maybe midway through the level just so i didn't need to go all the way back to the beginning. But it was fun. Great job.

This was a really fun game to play. I thought some of the pixel art was very attractive. I found the drone controls a little bit difficult to grasp, but once I got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. However, I now have a severe dislike for old people and balloons.

Art was awesome, praise the artist! Great looking for a jam :)

Game played well and everything worked as it should. Took me a second to get a hang of the floatiness of the drone.

Screw those guys throwing rocks at me!!!!

Nice little project overall.

Super fun. I smashed two boxes and only got a 3 star (cursed stone throwers). Music, graphics, controls fit the retro vibe very well, with satisfying precision game play. Great job!

I thought the art and music were very fun and it was enjoyable to weave the drone through the various hazards. Good entry!

Cool game! I think the deliveries were a touch too far, it would have been nice if there were more destinations throughout or like a quick way to return to start maybe? I loved the way this game looked though, very nice and chill.

Great stuff! I loved the title screen and the clouds of the background are really nice, giving a more calming vibe than the music does haha. The movement of the drone could have been a tiny bit faster, but otherwise I had fun playing this. Great job

Cool game. Like the graphics!

I encountered one bug. One of the packages fell through the floor and then the falling-sound got stuck in a loop and was playing all the time.

I hate to admit, but first thing I tried was hitting a bird. :grimacing:  Glad they were ok, even if at the cost of immersion. LOL

This is such a cute game. I love the concept!! Such a fun vibe right from the start. I actually really love the mix of high tech and people out in the wilderness. I actually thought I was delivering supplies and food at first which would've been cool.

Here were a couple of my notes from playing:
- The art looks killer!! But I think it would feel even more polished if things matched in resolution better. (It's weird how the boxes have so many pixels compared to the background etc).
- I wish the controls were snappier/faster. Like I want to be able to go really fast if I choose to. Especially with the delivery point that far away. The trade off is handling or crashing? The horizontal movement just felt slow for a drone imo.
- I thought I was delivering to the npcs at first. It wasn't super clear. And even when I made a delivery, some extra positive feedback would be nice. (I was still unclear if I made a successful delivery or not).

Overall, I really loved this! Killer job!

Great game, great art, great music! I would've made it a bit faster and more difficult (like more birds and/or more rocks/balloons thrown by the villagers) but that might be a matter of personal taste. Anyway I liked very much how the overall difficulty was increasing after each delivery.

Also I probably found a bug: whenever I'm on the floor while grabbing a box and then move the drone sideways, the horizontal speeds gets unbalanced to a point where even if I take off again I'm more or less unable to move on one of the two directions unless I try to trigger the same bug again.

Good job anyway!

Amazing art and great soundtrack. Nice game idea!
I found it a bit difficult, but I think that is mainly because of the randomly spawned birds that built a wall and didn't let me pass.

Other than that: great game!

I'm happy seeing a different approach to drone controls. A nice skill challenge for me there. The music and mood are fantastic if a little at odds with the background (but so is the drone?). Art is great and the difficulty is a good challenge. Great work!

I am a fan of drones and fly one myself. Why didn't I think of making a game with it  Nice Work!

Fantastic vibe, I liked the moon lander inspiration, whether that was intentional or not, I think it benefited from that. However, I feel like it could've benefited from speedier movement, and less boxes to deal with. Overall a lot of fun though and great vibe!

The graphics and music are great! It was a bit hard to move around and I thought the birds were part of the background at first 😋

This is pretty good! My only problem is the fact that I need to fly back every time, and that flying is a bit slow. But I like dodging through the birds and the balloons.
