Feathered Dispatch by Cody Holt
Carrier Pigeon Induction Game
Triangulate your way through the map to discover procedurally generated locations and deliver letters
Here's a Gif to help explain the game loop when you start out! We could have included some kind of tutorial!

@bloodyaugust We agree that it's hard to understand at the start and we could do better there. Going off of the natural formations as landmarks as well is a great idea that we would want to implement!
Like other people I was very confused at first, but the written tutorial sheet helped.
Also it took me a looong time to understand I was not suppose to triangulate using circles like I'm used to (like, it has to be X miles away from A and Y miles away from B, so you take the intersection of the two circles etc.), but instead using the North/South indications, which is much easier (also the circles method made it impossible sometimes so congrats my dumb brain  ).
I think the idea has potential but it was very hard for me to remember the instructions of the letter while measuring on the map, also remembering the name of the city after finding it, so every time I had to infer that from the new location that popped in the letter destinations... x)
Apart from that, the art is really cool (loved the muscular pigeon on the tutorial  ), and the music too (left it in the background for like 30 minutes and I didn't get tired of it), and the concept is quite innovative!
Congrats and thank you for the game!
Still, congrats!
I managed to get close to end, but there is a bug that prevents me from finishing (at least in web version). The pigeons were ordered to correct cities (even discovered ones), but kept dying literally at the location of the city. So - all of them died.
I'm not sure why they were dying while reaching correct destination - as there is nothing about it in the notes (determining how far can each pigeon go?).
All in all, it has a chill and nice atmosphere
Great game you guys put together! I like the interpretation of the theme, your classic approach to delivery:)
Some feedback:
- I will say that in my opinion this game could really benefit from the use of a medieval style font: https://www.dafont.com/search.php?q=medieval or https://www.1001fonts.com/search.html?search=medieval
- I also think that ESC should close the letter if you have a letter open and then bring up the options menu, which renders behind the letter anyway if there's one open. Just because natural playthrough feels like it should be esc rather than the number of the letter you currently have open...
- I feel like having the distance tool be broken down into its Adjacent side and Opposite side so you know the exact X and Y components might be useful since there is no way (that I found) to lock the measuring tool to one axis. I think the game could benefit a lot from something like that and make the caculation a bit easier
- I also think that adding temporary markers to the game is a must, because it's kind of a bit difficult to go back and check with each distance...
Overall a very beautiful game, I really like the visuals (all except the font) and the delivery of the game is great too!
