Transformation Delivery by jimun

[raw]
made by jimun for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

I crunched out something I could submit at at the end of the Jam, but it's not really much of a game. I is sort of playable, though. I realized LD was coming up late, so I was pretty unprepared. Used my old platformer engine from previous submissions. All (non-gui) art and all game-specific code are new.

The original idea was that you'd act as a delivery service for enchanted items, but the enchanted items would affect you for the duration of the time you held onto it, which would affect your abilities during each delivery.

In it's current form, there's only two transformation packages, and a plain package that does nothing. There's three destinations, the forest to the left, the mountain delivery point up the mountain, and an underwater delivery point.

Probably a million bugs.

Default Controls

Keyboard

  • F2 - Options Menu (change controls, volume, window size)
  • Arrows - Move
  • Space - Jump
  • C/F - Unused attacks
  • Escape - Pause/Menu (Also lets you to get the options)
  • Shift [hold] - Sprint (uses stamina)

X-Input Controller

  • A - Jump
  • X/Y - Unused Attacks
  • D-Pad - Move
  • Back - Pause/Menu
  • RB [hold] - Sprint

Some hints:

The bat can fly. Tap jump in the air to flap. Works best if you time each flap at the peak of your upward momentum. Jumping up the tree as the aquatic creature is much easier if you sprint jump from the center of the platform.

The aquatic transformation will lose breath meter if you stay out of water too long, but can last longer than the other forms can underwater.

Made in LÖVE 11.4. The LÖVE version can be run on Windows, Linux, or Mac if you have LÖVE installed.

you say that this isn't much of a game but I really had fun playing it! I think the idea of packages affecting you is pretty innovative, the level design is pretty simple but it works! bonus points for using lua and the Love library, I love both of them, I admit that this game could use some more polish and more content but it really isn't as bad as you may thing, nice work!
