Pixel Stranding by campalans

[raw]
made by campalans for Ludum Dare 53 (COMPO)

What would death stranding be like if it were a 2d platformer? I know that the game has a visual bug and that it doesn't have sound or effects but I've been trying to program a shit mechanic for 2 whole days that hasn't come out and since I'm already tired it stays that way I hope you enjoy it more than me.

Controls:

  • wasd to move
  • e to pass to the next level
  • space to jump and double jump
  • shift to dash

Can't play the game, loading bar doesn't move. Most likely a problem with the LD site, an itch.io upload may be the way to go.

I managed to play but got stuck in a very long jump to the right, the controls feel really floaty, but the game idea is nice :)

Not sure if it's me but the jumps aren't high enough?
I managed to somehow pass the first level but couldn't pass the first jump of the 2nd one

I could not get past level 1 because the jump is hard. Sorry.

@wahooney, @remus try chrome. Many games are stuck on firefox.

Generally a nice idea, but I'm also stuck on Level 2. Also you could mention, that there is a double jump and that you can jump with space in the first place. Also do you need more than one package or is that just for fun?

Made it to the end, pretty fun except the last level. Where you need to drop and dash to the left, because of the high gravity if you don't know you need to go left you just miss it and need to get there again.

I haven't played death stranding and I'm fairly sure that I now don't need to. I liked the game, but the levels get really hard.

@campalans THIS IS A GOOD GAME. The movement mechanics are perfect, the levels are well thought out, the difficulty is just right. I really enjoy it.

Tips for those that are struggling: You can double jump. Long presses = higher jumps. You can dash again in the air after your second jump.

@brandon-campbell tanks so much for the feedback and for helping others pass my game :)

What should be done on the level with the arrow pointing up? too bad the realization is good but it lacks a tutorial to discover the different mechanics rather than undergoing them

It's fun to play, the movement is smooth, I love the animation that cargos shake when I'm moving. I guess I'll enjoy it more if the cargos can affect the movements in some forms.

Very nice movement, reminds me of Celeste. I found the game to be surprisingly difficult, especially the last level. And like others have already mentioned, I didn't realise I could dash at fist. Would have helped if I read the instructions first of course.

@tasakasama it was there for teaching the double jump but maybe is not clear at all, thanks for the feedback

@yizao thanks for the feedback that was initialy my idea too but after two days trying and failing I just ended up deleting it

Fun game but the last level was a bit frustrating with the hidden dash at the bottom of the hole.

Aw, it won't load for me. Sorry. Often when an embedded version here won't load for me, a version hosted on itch.io works great. You might consider uploading it there and adding the link in your submission so it's an option for those who can't get it to load here so more people see your game.

Challenging game. I like that the controls are really tight and responsive. Whether I jump, double jump, or dash, I can see a visual response from my character right away. The levels get challenging FAST

Cool graphics and level design - enjoyed that I needed to use more abilities as it kept going. Had a lot of fun playing. Really liked the difficult ramp up.

One thing I would have liked (especially in the last level) was for the dash to me tied to how long I held the button down. Like tapping space does a quick dash but holding it down does a longer one. Would have saved me a few deaths :)

It's an ok platformer that really suffers from just not enough iteration. Loads of simple things could have made it much more enjoyable to play and I think thats the big lesson to learn here. Playtest more, playtest often and take easy wins! Fixing spike hitboxes, gravity speed and platform positions would have taken minutes, but would have made the final experience that much better.

Overall it's still a complete game and that's always worth celebrating, great job submitting and I genuinely believe next time you can learn from this and make something much better.

Smooth movement!

Not very stranding since it's in celeste mountain instead of at beach :grimacing:

the lack of background element is regrettable to stay invested in the game universe ^^ but nice job ! it was a good challenge still !

Nice job, I like the movement controls, needs some work I'd say. I liked the sticky wall coverings I thought that was a cool concept as well as carrying a stack of suitcases.

If it's supposed to be a rage game, it's a good one.

Spike colliders are way larger than the visuals, when the character is moving downwards it's extremely fast, and that last jump/dash towards the very last goal is insane.

As others said, a good (actually evil) challenge.

fun game! it can be a bit difficult to see the spikes, but i managed to beat it! movement feels pretty good, although the falling acceleration can be a bit tough to deal with.

Works pretty well as a rage game actually! I was able to make it to level 5 before giving up.
