Mail Mayhem by iDoesNotCompute

[raw]
made by iDoesNotCompute for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Your job is to sort the mail and make sure nothing dangerous gets through while having to deal with angry customers.

To play in browser, check us out on itch.io (https://badfngamestudios.itch.io/mail-mayhem)! We used Godot 4.0.2 which requires SharedArrayBuffer support, which Ludum Dare does not have at this time.

Cool pixel art, especially the x-ray machine. And as someone who works at a post office, I related to the customer interaction part haha.

Got the same error as @alex-chertilin on the Ludum dare website but on itch it's fine.

I really liked the x-ray scanner. And the customer interactions when you screwed up were a blast. I played it again and messed up intentionally every time just to see more of them!

As far as suggestions, I would have preferred to see the name without having to click on the item. As it was I felt like it slowed things down a lot and made me focus too much on the controls and clicking in the right place vs focusing on the sorting. Nice game though, I enjoyed it!

Hey folks! That error is due to LDJam.com not supporting Shared Array Buffer for embedded games, which is a requirement for Godot 4 games! Itch.io DOES support SAB though, so if you want to play in browser you'd have to head there. Thanks for the kind words!

@onedozenbagels We appreciate the feedback! I agree, it would have definately made it more convenient for the player. I guess we were trying to add more engagement. In my mind, a real person would have to look for the name and it wouldn't be immediately visible. This was also our first game!

Nice game. I wasn't expecting the customers to be so dark. Not sure if this was intentional but it seemed that the second line of customer text wasn't printing out. I could figure what they said but since I enjoyed the dialog I'd have liked to see what they said.

Ran into the same issues as Embedder72 with the Nigerian Prince scam customer, and the text not displaying correctly. I liked this. Overall, it was a bit unclear to me on "How" (first name? Last name) I was supposed to sort stuff, even after reading the tutorial.

I loved the first part of the game, the mail sorting was fun and reminded me of 'papers, please' in a way :D the customer support part I really liked the *idea* of, but the second line of the dialogue was always the same as the first, though the responses changed - so it made it a bit hard to understand what I'm deciding on. Definitely a fun concept, would love to see it as a full-fledged game!
