Piggy Box by silvio

[raw]
made by silvio for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Piggy Box: You are a little pig working as a post man, but this delivery brings you in some weird environments! Be careful and never leave your parcel behind.

CONTROLS:

Move with [WASD]

Jump with [Space]

Throw the box with [E]

We are officially sorry :sob: for the weird jumping physics. During the Jam we got used to it so we did not notice the flaws at the end.

GOAL:

Bring the parcel to the house.

KNOWN BUGS:

(1) sometimes the throwable box duplicates and the second one cannot be picked up. this bug does not have any consequences for playing the game.

(2) there is a rare crash due to loading and unloading of entities. I hope you will not encounter it :)

(3) sometimes text in the UI is not rendered properly, annoying but not game breaking.

(4) some browsers not working (?)

Game has no audio unfortunately

I've known games that function in Chrome and not function in Firefox but this one takes the cake.

When I do play in Chrome, it's not bad! Pig has a big jump! I could work out what throwing a box actually did though.

Loved the artwork. I think the jump feels a little too floaty for me, made the jumping puzzles feel not that satisfying. Great work overall!

Cute little game! Controls feel snappy and the platforming works well. The only small thing I would improve is the fact that releasing a direction key in mid-air has a slow-down effect, but changing direction in mid-air is an instant turnaround. Either both should be instant or both should have smooth velocity changes^^ Other than that, good job!

Very cute doggo deliverer, love the visuals of the cave part, surprizingly difficult XD
The jump being so high makes it hard to correctly land on platforms sometimes.

Funny game. I liked the graphics and smooth gameplay. Only thing is that i didn't have any sound (playing in Chrome). But well done!

I like how the dog has only one package that you can throw and pick up. The jumping is a bit floaty, and somehow it seems to accelerate mid-air after taking off.

Great little sprites and some good background, although the ground tiles became a little repetitive. I didn't run into any bugs! Good submission!

Worked for me in firefox! Throwing the box defeats enemies but they're hard to hit.

The big drawback is the frustrating jump physics. After trying it for a bit I think the specific problem is that you can't control your horizontal position precisely, due to the combination of gradual deceleration when hands off controls but immediate acceleration when pressing a direction. It makes fine-tuning extremely difficult, which is a big problem with the narrow platforms.

The jump is a bit floaty but that's okay! Nice little game, fitting the theme well. Congrats for your entry!

The game idea is simple and pretty fun. The visuals is great, and it fit very well to the game idea. Too bad there is no music or sound effects. Overall a pretty fun little jam game.

This was a very nice entry! I liked the aesthetics and the pixel art. Even though the idea is simple it is executed and implemented very well. I would like to have audio and sound effects, too!

In general good job! Keep up!

Fun game, and I thought the visuals were cute.

I agree with @alpacalypse 's comment on the movement mechanics. I think for those reasons, most platformer games either have no momentum (ie. if you aren't holding to the side you stop moving almost immediately), or relatively slower acceleration (so you can make fine-tuned movements).
