The Gist

The government has taken over all logistics, and put you in charge of customs. Check everyone's packages and ensure they match regulations. Constantly changing regulations.

Protect the city... Or else.

Controls

WASD - Movement E - Open Rulebook Scroll wheel / Z / X - Zoom in / out R - Check a customer's package F - Accept their package H - Deny their package

There's also gamepad support in the Windows executable (although, it is a little... janky on UI).

Features

  • Multiple input support, and key icon changes depending on last used input
  • Randomly generated customers - Always see a new face!
  • Increasing difficulty - More rules get added over time
  • Earning money to be able to afford rent... No government subsidies for you.
  • Days - How long can you last until life is finally unafforable?
  • Depressing random quotes from the poor citizens of the city with each parcel.

...And there's character customization!

I'm a little confused, but overall it's playable! Didn't expect there to be character customisation!

Loved the character customization. A little confused about the rate of people coming in, I'm not sure I could ever get past day 3 or 4. It's clean and polished and really gets the effect across.

Very cool, fun to see the inspiration from Papers Please! I like the twist of analyzing the packages as they come through as opposed to actually delivering them yourself :)

Not my style of game so I can't really speak to the gameplay. I love the pixel characters and the detail in the generator the cute pixel people. I think it would be fun if they were more animated, maybe just bouncing around like south park people. Good job!

@aymco Yeah... I have to admit, the game balance is certainly not there in terms of how surviving days goes. For whatever reason, that was the part that I left completely unfinished until the last hour before submission time... oops. I'm almost positive that it outscales what is possible to earn. Which is fortunate because I don't have additional rules after day 3 anyways :laughing:

Surviving longer than day 3 is honestly maybe impossible, but even getting to day 3 impresses me. Well done! And thanks for playing :)

This is good. All the elements you need are there. I really like the 'cutscene' images. They are freaky, but strangely compelling. I spotted a few bugs. I got a game over when I still had money, then when the next game started I still had the money from the last game. But all that's forgivable in a jam game. I had quite a few goes at this, maybe more than I should considering getting past day three is impossible.

Really cute Papers Please-style game! There's a minor bug where the UI text shows a change (presumably the next NPC in line) for a split second before the screen goes away, so you see a flash of text changing. Great theme execution!

I've really enjoyed the experience! The character customization is a fantastic addition that makes it feel more personal. I must admit, the game has a compelling challenge to it. I'm still figuring out the rhythm to get past the initial days. It's quite intriguing how similar your idea is to other entries, which goes to show the universal appeal of the concept. Maybe adding a bit more animation to the pixel characters would bring some extra charm. And I must say, I love the Papers Please vibe. Keep up the great work!
