Also, you can use x to go on walk mode or fly mode, and c to validate/deliver a package !
Nice game, good job!
Also, I'm pretty new to pico 8 (I started like 2 month ago ?), you have a limited color palette and you have to trick a little to make shadows for example. However that's an addition I want to make, I might add it later to make the character stand out a little more !
+ I beat the game but still not sure what the mechanics were, I was in a loop: check the direction, fly over until close, dismount, walk over and spam c. I saw there was life and it drained and I think I got teleported a few times, but I don't know why, the first time I ran out of mana I just started walking.
+ Sometimes getting off the broom over an obstacle would snap the camera to the grid, which was somewhat disorienting.
You quite describe the whole experience : a loop where your goal is to go to some house and deliver the package ! However you don't have to dismount to deliver a package, if you press "c" close enough it will be deliver, I should make this clearer :)
The heart represent people's appreciation, when you don't deliver a package, or lost it because you fell in the sea or in the woods, you lose appreciation. However it's acting like a life bar since when it's under 0 you lose the game.
I can't picture the grid problem you described, if you could provide a picture/gif of this issue I would really appreciate it !
The snapping must be the teleport after falling into water close to the city, I thought the camera was snapped to the character. I guess I didn't really look at where I was, just where I'm going.
I did find it hard sometimes to deliver the packages on land, certain houses even when adjacent didn't want to take the package and I had to fly over the house for the delivery.
Delivery is made to adjacent tiles, but not to diagonals tiles, I will add them to increase the delivery zone a little
Very cohesive.
I think you could optimize the beacon, I didn't recognize it first.
The flying mechanics are really good~~
Keep going~~
really to play
It gives a good flow to the game, alternating between short bursts of high speed, very approximative "general direction" movement (which feels good and is fun) and short bursts of frantically running around and trying to get situated to deliver the package (which delivered a sweet bit of tension to me). The game did not seem to be very hard or tense though, so I never felt really pressured to go as fast as possible, and only did it because it was the most fun way to play for me (but other people might end up missing on that fun because the game doesn't seem to require it, but that's still fine).
The graphics are super cute as well. The Kiki remix has a very Microsoft Puzzle Collections retro feel. Awesome work!
I think it probably would have really shone with a little more feedback (SFX?), maybe a slightly smoother UX? (some things were not immediately clear, and though I ended up understanding them alright, it might not be the case for everyone! Understanding the mana system takes a little while, for what I've seen when other people played the game)
I loved the mechanics, everything is very polished visually and it makes it very intuitive, even an idiot like me could understand the stamina mechanic in less that 1 minute.
Notice me Kiki Besos senpai :'(((
Overall that was fun to play.
Bien joué !
Great job, a really good entry!
