Rogue, fluff & nuts by Meta-link

In the hope of tasting a delicious brownie, gather and delivers some hazelnuts in this squirrel rogue like adventure !
Play the game in your browser here : https://meta-link.itch.io/rogue-fluff-nuts
How to play :
Arrow keys to move (I'm sorry that you'll have to spam)
Space to eat a nut
R to restart the game
There is a shortcut at the end of the game to come back faster
In Rogue, fluff & nuts you will experience a big adventure as a squirrel, inspired from from the old school rogue like games with many turn based fights and puzzles. Travel the world and gather some nuts !
It was made in 48 hours using GameMaker Studio 2 and Aseprite. I wish I had more time to exploit all the gameplay features I made and create a bigger world, but this is it.

Have fun and thanks for playing !

@flying-butter-studio Thanks, happy to ear that it fits well
@zeantwan Thanks ! I wish I had more time to exploit all the gameplay features I created, but it's always hard in a jam
Personally makes me want to live as a squirel<3
The trees levels and some puzzles element are nice additions.
Spamming the keyboard to move is a little tiring, but it's ok.
But gg!
My only comment is that the game world is a bit too big since the player needs to keep pressing the key instead of holding it. Especially since you need to go back and forth to get the nuts.
Great work!
Would have loved if I could keep the buttons pressed to move. Felt very tiring to do many key presses to move.
Just wished that we could get back to starting point in a quicker way after collecting all nuts
Congrats!
I could not figure out the combat and would love to be able to just hold the arrows, too much pressing made my hand hurt a little ahaha.
Great job!
@kasperhangard you can actually hold 3, as indicated at the top of the screen, sorry if it wasn't clear.
@cheesepencil sorry to disappoint but sadly it is not haha. I wish, but I had to take this decision early in the jam and choose to focus on the gameplay instead
Very good entry overall. Nicely done.
Things I liked about this game:
- Really cute art! And the dialogue sequence was well done.
- Finding upgrades for my... knife?! haha weird thing for a squirrel to have
- Tree transition between different islands
- Being able to choose between delivering a nut, or eating it for hp.
Things I didn't like as much:
- Way too much backtracking, I spent more than half the game running back to deliver the nuts, then running back again to where I was exploring. By the 10 nuts it was really un-fun, and if it asked me to find more nuts after that, I would've stopped playing.
- Level is too large for single-move turn based gameplay. I clicked so many times just to move across the map. I think if you just reduced the level size, then it would feel much better to play. It would also help with the last point...
- Enemies are easy to avoid / a little unpredictable. Having tighter levels and more limited movement would also more deliberate encounters.
Also... was the map supposed to be randomly generated? Someone else said it was, but when I reloaded the page I got the same map.
Overall, great job! Impressive compo entry :)
@francis thanks for the huge feedback, especially regarding level design (which is not generated). I hope next time I'll have time to craft a better world (and a working AI, which was planned but I failed to implement it)
