DeliverToTheDark by Anton Semenov

[raw]
made by Anton Semenov for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

(As usual) an incomplete game about light and darkness and kart delivering throught it all.

Your task is to drag the cart through a dungeon filled with strange statues. Be careful and watch your cart, you may not find it where you left it. If you are lucky enough to find a special weapon to fight them, you can break through with a fight, or try to avoid trouble.

Controls:

E - interaction with nearest objects (levers, weapon, cart)

F - enable portable light (requires some time to reload)

Space - jump

Shift - Run(If you don't pull a cart)

Left mouse button, WSAD - movement

Right mouse button - aim the weapon (when available)

Based on Unreal Engine. Despite the game is completable, there are too many issues with the gameplay, so that it's more like technodemo :)

Beware spoilers! This is a full walkthrough video: https://youtu.be/iCCS1a4o8vs

Since the game doesn't provide directions for your movement, here's a little guide. 1. At the very beginning, you need to press the lever to advance further. (Don't leave the cart =)) 2. In the large hall, you need to find a staff to open the door, which is highlighted by a red sphere

Really cool graphics, the character and lighting is super nice, maybe I should give UE5 a try sometime :P

I couldn't really find where to go to from the first room, I ran around the edges of the map and didn't find any door, so I stopped there.

@mathead Thanks for trying, I slightly corrected the beginning, so the path would be more obvious

Neat little horror game! Loved the graphics & atmosphere, tho would be cool to have more ambient sounds imo. Also wasnt sure what exactly was going on after I met big green guy and he stole my cart :O But I liked ntroduction of the enemies, was spooked a little :D and lantern mechanic

@unima9000 Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, there was not enough time for the sounds.
And in order to take away the cart, you need to find a luminous stick and hit this impudent one with it. He will hide with the cart from you. And to go further, you can’t do without a glowing stick =)

I love the lighting and the mood of this game! All around pretty good.

I had some trouble with the level design, couldn't figure out where to go. Performance was poor sometimes, although that's to be expected with UE5 when it's unoptimized. Vibe/environment design is good, well done.

I enjoyed the lonely mood the most, the absence of music did a good job in this situation. It was hard to navigate in the beginning, I'd like to have a minimap or at least some guide :)

You managed to create a great creepy atmosphere, liked it a lot!
Since it's quite hard to understand what to do or where to go without watching a playthrough video some guidance would be nice, like having an objective or a direction arrow pointing where should I deliver the corpse

@graphicedit @x16 @space-games @emty Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Unfortunately, we didn't have time to put it all into the game. I would redo most of the level to make it clear which direction to go. At this stage, an elementary arrow will not be a bad solution. But at the time of the competition, judging by the rules, it is not recommended to make changes.
I will write a small guide so that it would be clear in which direction to move.

Lantern mechanic and the main idea are cool. For me, level design could be better and more interesting, it's the weakest part of the game. Games with total dark are really hard to balance and they always have troubles with player's navigation. I'd try to add some torches or lighting mushrooms and other small beacons so player could understand where to go. Now I don't even know what is my goal. So, yeah, navigation D:

@astramorae Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the level design should be better, not much time has been allocated to it. Some things took much longer than planned. But we have definitely gained experience.

Nice work. To make it more creepy i think you can add. To make it even scarier, you could add surround sound of footsteps and some dark ambient. Good job!
