Shoot The Messenger by NastyVibrato

[raw]
made by NastyVibrato for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

This game is called Shoot the Messenger. A tiny twin-stick shooter with a lil' skeleton guy who's delivering letters. Audio: @prodgrega Everything else:@nastyvibrato Hi everyone! While I've dabbled in Unity a touch, this is my first real playable... "game". I wish I had the time for so much more, but sadly I'm too much of a beginner at Unity to have completed more features... so this game remains more a proof of concept than anything else. Name is kind of irrelevant since there's no shooting of the enemies. But it was a planned feature for archer orcs! Wish I had time to add an upgrade system, health and a few more enemies at least. As well as clean up the visuals yadda yadda. But regardless I'm happy I made this with ~24h of work, considering how long it's been since I even touched Unity. This Jam was a ton of fun and I can't wait to participate again! Hopefully I have more stamina and can go for ~30h next time!

Solid twin-stick shooter. The graphics and music added a nice sinister vibe to the whole game.

The WebGL version should be up now on itch.io, didn't want to run if natively hosted on ldjam. Sorry about that.

Shoot The Messenger = Instant Click! I enjoyed the variation in the enemies, fun game that works!

You're friend did a good job on the music. The vibe was pretty cool, the game could definitely use more polish. And some enemies are too fast, so they keep ramming into me.

@alanxoc3 The ramming and speed are intentional! I didn't have the time to add all the enemies I wanted, so I made a variation on the slower orcs that was way faster but easier to kill. That added a little bit of variety and also an actual chance to mess up and die if you're careless and/or didn't instantly figure out how you should play the game. If you just perma-shoot in a forward direction as well as move back when you see enemies, its still incredibly easy to beat it without taking any damage. Was it too hard or unintuitive as a new player, and you died a lot? Or what was your issue with it.

A little too easy for me but still a solid entry and the added story element at the end made it unique

Solid and slick. Some audio feedback would've been great.

I agree that some sound effects would be welcome... also, my autoclick mouse made the game really easy (yeah I know it's cheating). But outside of that, the game is cool !

So... you just gave him the letter to fit the theme?)) Anyway, it can be played and fun is there, when you hold the mouse button to attack 4ever...

Great work for a first-time attempt! Some of the enemies move really, really fast and almost hit me in the face. There were also some all-black tiles that I thought were traps that would hurt me if I got too close, but they weren't. Despite that, it's still a great game overall, especially for a first attempt. I look forward to seeing more of your work and hope you keep it up.
