Delivery Boy Express by civmaniac

Free at last from the mind control of your alien overlords, you discover there is a whole galaxy of wonders out there. You decide to carve your own place in it the only way you know – by being... 🎺🎺🎺 TAM🎜 TAM🎝 TAAM🎜 🎺🎺🎺... a DELIVERY BOY 👍. But this time, it’s on your own terms.
When we saw the theme of this jam, we decided to tie this game somehow to our LD47 game Delivery Boy Forever. And so Delivery Boy Express, even though it's a very different game, is a continuation of Delivery Boy's story.
:exclamation: We didn't have time for an in-game tutorial, so please read the short "How to play" section below.

Gameplay
Delivery Boy Express is a fully physics-based action game set in 🪐 THE OUTER SPACE. It includes an interesting and magical system of traveling between planets on your trusty rocket bike. - Pick up unusual packages from clients, deliver them to proper recipients. Finish 8 quests to win. - Compass 🧭 will help you find the way to your next destination. Make sure to use it. - You have no weapons, use your brains and creativity instead :smirk:. Enemies can be avoided or even killed in inventive ways. - Wheels are not only for riding – they can shield you from harm and help deal with threats. - Play session remembers your progress after finishing each quest.
Insurance doesn't cover backflips, frontflips, flashy zombie decapitations, hitchhiking on UFOs and approaching ground neck-first.
How to play
You will receive quests automatically - clients will call you on the comms. After you do, use the compass (⌨️ S / 🎮 Y) to find your way to your next destination. When you land on the proper planet, interact (⌨️ F / 🎮 A) with the site and pickup the package. Use compass again to find your client's location and drop-off the cargo. You will get a celebratory "Delivery Complete" message when the quest is done.
And last but not least - learn to roll ↶ ↷, or die a lot and then learn to roll .
:exclamation: If you find controls too hard to master, you can try POST-JAM version.

I loved checking out all the details. the music is nice too. it's not intrusive and you can even whistle along. Great job!
Music was well chosen; it gave a nice chill, adventurous vibe. I liked the cute graphics and the little snippets of dialogue.
I also really liked how there were ways to deal with enemies, but you could also just avoid them. A lot of games that have the "just avoid them" component devolve into thousands of enemies in a mob behind you all the time towards the end, but you've avoided that, so it felt worth it to avoid them.
Not much else to say. Really excellent job.
Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to play and leave thoughtful feedback! We crunched like never before on this one (like craaaaaazy :scream:), and it's nice to see people enjoying it. It's also nice to know that nobody is reporting motion sickness, as we thought that might be a concern.
Thank you again :smile_cat:
That being said, I did enjoy the take on the theme and the "driving off asteroids" aspect was well executed and fun. The audio was also fairly soothing of the amount of deaths that were going on.
Like so many LD games, with more time and more polish, this'd could be turned into a real smooth game. It's already fun, but it could be smoother.
Here’s the stream if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts (timestamps in the description to jump to your game!) [youtube link](youtu.be/7zAPBeiWuqA)
Thanks for playing and for taking the time to leave feedback! Glad you enjoyed the game.

The visuals are really neat and the game is quite easy to comprehend (although controls are hard to master). Also nice touch with the brutality, I took a while to notice but the dead boy's head was quite the thing.
The music is cool but I missed more sound effects in it.
The red arrows were supposed to be the gravity? I thought so but wasn't sure. The physics are amazing and it feels really good when you get to survive your own inability with the controls, delivery boy got some skills maneuvering.
Overall a very fun game! Especially funny if you watch people rage quitting while they play!
I did find it quite hard to control and to avoid all the flying things. I completed some missions, but it wasn't clear if was starting over all the time or not (because many symbols stay on the compass). But suddenly I won the game!
Hi, everyone! As some of you reported troubles with getting the hang of controls (and subsequent over-abundance of dying :smirk:), we are happy to announce that we made a **Post-Jam version** in which we **improved controls** and introduced a landing assist option to further facilitate planetary landings (enabled in the main menu). We would be most grateful if you would find a few minutes and try it out. Let us know if we are on the right path, and if we managed to indeed improve your experience. It would help us learn and be better in the future projects. **Your help is appreciated**. Thank you! :gift_heart:
You'll find a new web version (and downloadable ones) here: https://limboofwonders.itch.io/delivery-boy-express-post-jam
Apart from improved controls, we added other tasty bits, such as:
- Optional **challenges** for players looking to test their skills (also enabled in the main menu).
- **Getting paid** for your deliveries!
- **High score** system with special badges.
- Galaxy **traffic** and a gravity anomaly.
- Improved easter egg 🐸 and **zombie dancing**.

Cool effect on the sky darkening when you go into space. That helped telegraph gravity weakening.
Controls felt great and the physics made me want to keep playing, the dialogue was super fun (loved all the different characters and how they enriched the game world :D ), top-notch character design! Oh, and kudos to you for not just jumping into dev with Godot 4, but also successfully delivering an amazing game!
Great to have you guys back, and thank you for the this brilliant game!
(and apologies for my proper feedback taking so long :/)
