Counting up the points was surprisingly difficult due to losing track of what I counted.\n\nFor solo play it would be nice if there was a score range in the rules to compare of how well you did. Example: diff score of 1-10 novice, 11-15 advanced, 16-20 expert, 20+ master (just guessing at numbers)\n\nI had to read the rules a couple of times to get it (which is normal for board games with me), I want to say the scoring example was well done and very helpful.\n\nAlternative gameplay idea, place all tiles without gaps. Why is this so hard?! Interesting to see how few flipped pieces used to get it to work, trying to add more always resulted in gaps.\n\n![hatcomplete.png](\/\/\/raw\/863\/72\/z\/5b9fb.png)\n\n","format":"md","likes":0,"spam":"N"},{"id":976623,"author_name":"LDJam user 205479","author_uid":"205479","epoch":1683702764,"text":"Such a great idea! No relevant knots were formed because it was basically always trivial to block one if it would be disadvantageous (by lining up only one of the two edges at worst).\n\nReally cool to play with this tile though, made for very interesting spatial stuff when trying to figure out where a good placement would be =).","format":"md","likes":0,"spam":"N"}],"format":"md","images":["ld53\/wayback-placeholder.png"],"links":[],"metadata":{"g_key":"88788","g_author":"1133764","g_event":"LD53","g_eventkey":"118","g_subevent":"COMPO","g_urlkey":"426176","g_title":"Hat Game","g_status":"WAYBACK","g_place":"99999","g_commentcount":"11","g_site2_node_id":"362662","g_hide":"Y","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":{"n_key":"362662","n_urlkey":"426176","n_parent":"332127","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/53\/hat-game","n_slug":"hat-game","n_type":"item","n_subtype":"game","n_subsubtype":"compo","n_author":"133764","n_created":"1682784821","n_modified":"1776442781","n_version":"1115950","n_status":"WAYBACK"},"node":{"_collation":{"body_sanitizer":"TextUtils::SanitizeHTML via existing importer","event":"LD53","removed_author":false},"_superparent":9,"_trust":1,"author":133764,"body":"![hat-cover-5-4.png](\/\/\/raw\/48a\/02\/z\/585f4.png)\n\nAn aperiodic abstract tile-laying game for one to six players.\n\n**Print and Play**: Download the PDF, print the board and tiles, cut and punch the tiles, and play: either solo or with up to five friends!\n\nI was inspired by the new \"hat\" aperiodic monotile, and particularly a variant with pipe\/path decorations (see below) to make a game about delivering goods using these unusually shaped tiles to lay out a path.
