ingest|digest by vivid-hallucination

[raw]
made by vivid-hallucination for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

This is a game about a blob named Petri. He's just a little guy, and he's hungry.

Collect all the things, digest them, and grow :)

Click to move. Press space sometimes.

I made this solo in about 33 hours, minus 4 for the first failed prototype.

It uses p5.js as a backend and a particle library I've been working on for the blobbo

100% Human Made. Well, 99% + VSCode's code completion.

Nice concept, I was wondering when it ends. I was hoping Petri could grow so much that he will eat whole planets and stars. Which could look very similar to the first stage where Petri started and it would enclose the circle. :) Cool entry! The music fits really well and sets the right mood.

I really liked the sound design here! The particle system is also very neat - It seemed like it kept making fractal shapes as I got bigger, and I was really curious if that was an actual mathematical occurrence or coincidence!

My one piece of constructive feedback is that it might have been a good idea to skip the first round where you're just collecting abstract shapes and go straight to the second phase. During the first phase, I had no idea if there was more to the game than just collecting the shapes, but once I hit phase 2, it felt like things really picked up steam in a much more engaging way

Overall, this is really cool stuff for just 33 hours, especially being built on a custom library!

I love the concept! Seeing the phase changes is just incredible. I really like the music, and in terms of originality and theme, it's a 5 out of 5!

Great concept! I love this sound design and visuals. Controls are a little bit off but it's playable so fine by me

The phase changes were entertaining and kept us wanting to see what was next. I couldn't tell if the particles were moving slower as I got bigger, or if there was lag. The people running away was hilarious.

A fun game, I'm not sure what you call the genre of eating things smaller than you and getting larger, but it's always fun. I liked the twist that you start eating humans later on.

It got very slow on the final level to move, I'm not sure if that's intentional or if it was lagging.

The mechanic of eating other creatures is very satisfying! It would be nice if the movement was a bit more agile though. Great game!

I eat a triangle, yay! The game is fun but repeptative. Maybe you can add buffs or something?

Nice concept and it's amazing that you made this entirely by yourself. Deeply Impressed.
(Update: if you want to further improve on this game, I recommend using GPU to handle the particles, as it lags a lot in the browser even on Intel's Ultra 9 275HX)

Relaxing soundtrack, cute pixel graphics, simple mechanics, but these procedural creature animations look complicated to program. I couldn't do that. Great work and game!

I liked the system of devouring and gradually digesting food. The classic game is eat to eat even more. I think the game lacks a leveling system.

wow! cool! I think this game would be a great base to create something maybe a bit more fun/challenging? Great job!
