Monsters Under The Bed by Interface

[raw]
made by Interface for LD33 (COMPO)
As a monster, you love hiding under the bed. But honestly, you love the closet even more... So make your way to the closet, and pick up the letters spelling MONSTER on your way!

Use WASD/Arrow keys to move, mouse to look. Click in the window to grab the mouse, press escape to release the mouse.

Don't get seen!

Under the bed you're safe. However, the kids are peeking over the side. If you happen to walk under them, you're done! (Tip: look for the shadow to see which side they are on).
You can walk around, but if you're moving on a side where a kid is peeking, mommy comes over. You have a few seconds to hide under the bed, or to hold perfectly still. Wait for mommy to leave before you move again, or she'll see you and you're done.

Also, don't run into noisy toys or mommy will come check it out as well.

I had a lot of fun with this one! The mommy mode was a good addition beyond just having the kids peeking over the side. I could envision having a bunch of different levels with the idea where you have to hide behind things or rearrange stuff so you can get through, etc.

Cool game! I liked how you disempowered the monster, and the use of shadows for determining position worked really well. The whole environment was very cute as well, definitely felt a child's bedroom.

One thing that stealth mechanics tend to revolve around is waiting for enemies to move. My game also suffers from some periods of waiting without action. I think it's an interesting challenge to come up with a design that gives players something to do while hiding, some way to manipulate when/where/how long they hide.

Good work! :)

Cute game, very well made! I included it in part 2 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/ml0OKpi-I0Y

Those children are scary. I can't possibly eat them.

Nice game overall ! A night setting would have been fitting

I really like the idea of your game, I thought it worked really well! The music and sounds are really good too.

I think it was perhaps a bit too easy -- whenever I was spotted, I could just stand still for 10 seconds, then carry on monster-ing around. Adding something else to make this harder would be nice!

Fun concept. Well used basic 3D shapes, that is a legit baby to me. Good job!

I started to make this very idea. ^_^ I decided to go a different but similar direction though. Well done, I liked the sound hints and overall idea of this. It felt like it could use some additional challenge, but for a core game idea it was very well executed.

Fun game! I love the idea of a different FPS game, where you're a monster living in a childish environment. The concept is really awesome, the graphics are great, and if the game had procedural levels I could honestly see the game flowing for a long period without being annoying. A great approach to the concept, one of my favorites here.

Nice idea, I like it.

Mouse controls were super sensitive for me. Using a magic mouse on an iMac, though, so it could well be that.

Well done! :-)

I figured the mouse was sensitive for other people, which is why there's a settings option to change that ;-)

Thanks all for the feedback!

Probably the first game that makes me feel like a generic monster. Great job! The mom mechanics were pretty cool; would love to see more things added to the game!
