Fish Feud 2 by Phobos001

[raw]
made by Phobos001 for Ludum Dare 58 (EXTRA)

I recommend you play on Itch.io because it has a fullscreen button, or play natively on Desktop Windows or Linux

This was originally a Jam entry (made it last minute!) but a level transition was broken and I didn't have music attribution on the final screen. So I resubmitted as an Extra game instead. I'm there with you guys in spirit lol

Sam and Trent are being attacked by the fish they've collected, but where did the fish get all of this equipment? Get zapped across 4 levels and fly around fighting your new airborne enemies!

A sequel to my GTMK 2024 Jam game, Fish Feud. It's a flip of the theme, where before you collected the fish, but now the fish are here collecting from you instead. It's kinda flimsy but I really wanted to elaborate on the last game.

Had to cut a lot of stuff but I hope you still have a lot of fun! :)

It felt like I was playing Doom and flying. Good job

An interesting story, appropriate music, and the controls were somewhat confusing for me from the start.
Overall, it is a good game.

OMG I was so confused with the controls which was sad as the shooting felt good as I was still able to to hit something. Tempo music.

The controls of the game are terrible. I somehow managed to go through a boss but with the controls and the attacks of the boss who are too hard to dodge, I couldn't end this game. The part with the ennemies (when you're not just a punching ball) is fun, I liked shoot them. Good job!

The controls were really tricky to get used to but I think that's what makes the game so special. Enjoyed it a lot.

I sadly couldn't get very far without dying haha

The controls are very fun! But the physics are very punitive, maybe tune down the roll on hit a bit? The shooting is very satisfying which is a good sign.

Such a fun game. I loved the sound, animation, and the gunshot feedback. The controls take a bit of getting used to, but they become second nature after a while.

I particularly liked how the tutorial was implemented - the way hints disappear as you use the mechanics more.

Very fun story bit. I would have needed some getting used to the controls before being shot 80 times, before I could ever orient myself. But in the end, I managed to beat it in 13 minutes, getting hit 167 times. Very trippy experience. Almost has a VR feel to it... but then I would hav probably thrown up xD
Very fun once you get the hang of it, but some heads up would have been nice ;)

Maybe don't have enemies shooting you while you are still figuring out how to even move. Gives a bad first impression. Once I restarted the game, skipped the story and started without being in permanent hit stun roll it was pretty nice entry!

Whoahw this is a hard game! Pretty in-deph lore at the start! I'm terrible at this game, so I could not clear the level. But is sure is exciting to play!

@wouter52 @samuli @dumchevdev @torte478 @mael-rios @raysplaceinspace @tykki19 @dmitriyci @cope Hey I'd like to thank you guys for your feedback  I had planned to add a tutorial like in the first game so new players could get a hold of things first, but I didn't make it right away and never had a chance to go back  I'm planning to make a more fleshed out version of this game, and I promise the pacing will be so much better lol. Thank you for your time

It opened up like a Dogman book lol. I spent most of my time getting spun around not knowing where I was, but I made it to the second level and liked the pulsing color windows. Good job on this one.

A trippy, fast-paced sequel where the fish fight back. The shooting and animations are satisfying, but the controls and physics feel confusing and punishing at first. Once you adapt, the gameplay is fun and chaotic, with clever music and presentation adding to the frenetic, almost VR-like experience.

At level 3, the controls clicked for me, at which point the game was actually very fun to play! I figured out how to roll around, move backwards and shoot at the pursuing enemies, which felt like a very efficient tactic. The boss fight was a little inconsistent, as most times, hits did not register as damage, which dragged the whole fight by a lot.
