Candy Crunch
The Great Halloween Candy Heist: Race the Clock, Raid the Houses, and Out-Sugar the other Neighborhood Gremlins!
Candy Crunch is a bite-sized (pun intended) Halloween strategy sim where you and a horde of neighborhood kids compete for the collection of the ultimate candy haul—all before curfew hits and the parental patrols start! Plan your route wisely, dodge the duds, and watch the sugary chaos unfold as everyone scrambles for treats. It's a chill "set it and forget it" vibe, perfect for soaking in the spooky-season silliness.
(Ludum Dare entry: Ambitious ideas met a tight timeline—imagine this with full polish, and you'll get the vision!)
How to Play: Your Path to Candy Glory
1. Dive In and Scout the Neighborhood
- Hit Start to generate a random map of your neighborhood and all the Halloween potential.
- Hover over houses for the scoop: Who's handing out what? Rumors on candy types (full-size bars? Toothpaste traps?) and popularity levels.
- High-popularity houses might run dry fast— so plan around the buzz, or risk empty bowls. Candy types contribute to the scoring, so try to avoid the Health-Nut houses if you can!
2. Regenerate if It's a Bust
- Map looking like a ghost town? Or every house whispering "raisins only"?
- Hit that Generate New Map button for a fresh neighborhood. Roll until it feels right!
3. Plot Your Route
- Click houses one by one to build your path—an orange line snakes out to show the flow.
- No undos yet (planning pro-tip: Commit or regret!), so choose carefully. Skip your own home, you've already got a stash of candy there and can't select it!
- Peek at estimated time vs. curfew—overtime's a killer!
4. Launch the Run!
- Route locked? Press Start Run! at the bottom left.
- Watch the kids crowd up outside your house like a pint-sized flash mob—then they burst off on their own wild routes.
- Your Player is the very light blue Godot hanging outside your house.
- (Pro tip: Some slackers bail early and loiter. Boo—lazy goblins.)
5. The Sugar Sprint Unfolds
- Your Player dashes the route: Travel, queue up, snag candy, repeat.
- You return home using the streets. Everyone else? Full on Wizard mode—flying broomsticks optional (mach-speed returns to the start house are a giggle glitch for now).
- Beat curfew? Sweet. Linger too long? Oof—grounding penalty bites 10% off your haul per 10 seconds late!
6. Home Sweet Haul: Stats Showdown
- Stats screen drops: Your score vs. the top kid, average gremlin, and total bum-out.
- Track silly metrics like "TP Terror Targets" (healthy house raids) and "Heroic Heists" (full-size feasts).
- (Note: If you finish early, stats might cut short—no full sim yet. Emojis? Glitchy placeholders for now.)
7. Next Steps: Keep the Chaos Rolling
- From the stats screen: New Run for a quick reset, or Main Menu to bail.
- (KNOWN BUG: New Run might crash—hit Main Menu and restart safely for now!)
A Note from one of the Devs (AnneArkey)
Thanks for wading through this candy-coated wall of text! This was imagined up as a cozy watch-the-mayhem-unfold jam: Plot once, sip cocoa, laugh at the lil' monsters swiping sweets. But whoops—rookie dev here, and the systems snowball got real. Apologies for the rough edges!
Bugs? We'll squash 'em. Future versions: Proper sprites, smooth animations, gasp even sound effects. For LD58, though? Just pure, pixelated Halloween heart. Grab some candy, chuckle at the fails, and may your real haul be full-size only.
Happy Game Jam—hope you have a blast! 🎃🍬

Otherwise, graphics were nice, the concept was fun and there were enough factors to consider while choosing houses to make me think, without being completely confused
However, I loved your idea and concept  keep up with games (and descriptions) like this!
