Chains at the end of the tunnel by Dock Frankenstein

[raw]
made by Dock Frankenstein for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

Description

In a dystopian future where Satan is dead and God has been chained by humans, you embark on an expedition in order to locate the last bits of angel steel, that you hope will help you with restoring the old order. You are equipped with a jailbroken cross that, unlike a typical cross, allows you to use it without having to pay anyone. The only downside is that it has to be occasionally recharged

So I originally wanted to create this game in rust with Bevy, but I ran into a problem while trying to import a physics library and fixing it with my non-existent rust skills would have taken too long. So I switched to C# and Stride, but that also had issues running on my linux machine. So in the end I switched engines again to Godot and this is the result

All assets were created by me. I planned on including something from the internet, but it just sort of came out like that. Even the realistic eyes and teeth you can see on demons from far away are also mine :)

Animations were the result of me freestyling physics and refusing to learn how to animate in godot

All levels are generated from images where black means wall, blue means light, red means demon and green means player. This was also the result of me refusing to learn how scene management works in godot

A very interesting concept. I like the control scheme with discrete turning - it adds more horror than free mouse look, as if the character is constrained by fear. The demons are quite tough. I also liked that you can't get too close to a demon and need to find a better position to defend against attacks. A very good game with atmospheric visuals.

Cool game! I find the controls a bit hard to use, specially reflecting. But I really like the movement mechanic, so you need to be careful around the corners. The art is really smooth. Well done!

Very dark and moody and i had to get used to the 90° turning. Thanks for helping me out with that one level 😅 For your reference, here's my archived stream 😊🦄
