Auction Antics by Dining Philosopher

[raw]
made by Dining Philosopher for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

Gotta collect them all!

A lovely day to spend at the auction house buying coins, artifacts and Pokemon - at the right price. How many collections can you complete?

  • Running low on cash will get you a stipend, but it's better to stay liquid. Completed collections earn you a hefty sum.
  • When time runs out, you automatically spend your remaining money buying (matching) items, but no more collection reward ££ is gained. Only the number of collections counts as your score.

Can you beat my score of ~~10~~ 11 collections?

A fun little game! The sprite and UI art fits together really well and I appreciated the voice lines. The interpretation of the theme as art collection is a fun one as well!

A cute concept, and executed well. The voice lines really sell the atmosphere. It did take me a little while to work out that some of the purchases were useless, depending on the current desired collections - but I might just be slow on the uptake there.

(My best is 7.)

Interesting game and really cool! The execution and voice lines are done really nicely and everything is very cool. It gives one a sense of stress without any enemies, which is pretty funny.

Cool concept! I found it surprisingly tricky to quickly scan the items and realize which ones I need. This lead to the typical just one more round, I can do a lot better effect.
But even after playing a few rounds, I still couldn’t get more than 5 collections. 10 seems far out of reach!
Really cool and slightly addictive game!

It's a nice game. It's a nice sound, but I would like to have some kind of opportunity to manipulate the falling out of pieces so that I have more choice and, accordingly, the opportunity to collect bingo.

Indeed, it was loveable <3 If it'd reroll automatically every 3 secondes, it could maybe be little more engaging ? Dunno

@tatawanda thanks for the idea, that's an interesting thought! I think I do prefer letting the player reroll manually in this case, it automatically lets good players play faster and rewards quickly spotting when there is no good item available or deciding an item is not worth its price. I love these kinds of design ideas though, it's much of the fun (and sometimes frustration) in creating a game :)

Absolutely fantastic work with the voicelines, I wanted to keep playing just to hear praise as much as possible, ahah! I was so determined to get more than 7 boxes. Maybe one day I will, very addicting and solid game! I wish there was a mechanic to gain more time or more levels with different challenges. I was already entertained with this, I would be overjoyed if there was even more. Great job!

Very nice take on the theme! I’m really enjoying it (over an hour in now!) super addictive. I’ve reached level 7 so far, but I’m not giving up yet. Great job!

Super fun! One of the few games I played multiple times. The time pressure adds a ton of engagement trying to quickly figure out which of the collectables you want right now. Fits the theme really nicely as well

It’s extremely hard to beat your high score 😅
Good game! I really like the sound design, and the core mechanic is pretty interesting!

A good entry for the "collector" theme. I have played other jam games where you have to complete sets of objects and this one is the best I have tried so far. The fact of having limited time to get as many sets as possible instead of having to complete all possible sets is a good spin on the concept. It doesn't drag out and instead leaves you wanting to play again.

Cleaver and unique mechanic! It was way more fun that I initially thought. Managed to get 6, maybe I can get 7 with few more tries, but 11 is just crazy! Well done with the game!
