Crash Bidder by Arlwin

[raw]
made by Arlwin for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

In Crash Bidder, you’re a desperate collector trying to sell your prized collectibles—but there’s a twist. The only way to raise their value… is to bid on them yourself!

Bid high to tempt other collectors into bidding even higher—but don’t get too greedy. If you’re the last bidder when the hammer drops, the item’s yours… and you’re broke.

With only three chances to bid, every move counts. Outthink, outbid, and outlast your rivals in this high-stakes crash-style auction game!

Inspired by the theme “Collector”, Crash Bidder draws from the wild world of art auctions—where fortunes rise and fall in seconds.

This is a game of chance and you can't really know if the others will still bid or not! It's up to your intuition.

P.S. Originally we wanted to add more items to auction and upgrades to buy with the surplus but we ran out of time :(

It's an interesting idea and the art is AMAZING but I don't really understand how I'm supposed to get the other bidders to place a bet that gets me to the quota. It seems like every time I bid I either fail or the bidders don't want to bid for the item.

Interesting take on the collector theme, I like the art style and concept, the gameplay is a little too simple but it could fit depends on further development.

Btw, there are times where I did nothing and the bidders bid above quota by themselves, is this by design? Since there's balance on the menu I'm guessing there will be(or could have been) a reason for the player to want to get the bid higher even though it passed the quota?

There's... not really any strategy to this that I can see? If there is it's not very obvious.

Really really cool game, i especially love the art and the animations. Theres only one level I can play though, even if i press next, i can only play the doll level... Still a really nice idea, the gameplay felt a bit luck-based though, since the other ones sometimes just didnt do anything and sometimes took everything into the clouds. As I said, pretty cool idea with neat graphics and audio, but the game design execution could be better.

ahahaha of course i got too greedy. it went so well and then..! well, what did i expect when manipulating the bidding. fun little game of risk and reward, though sad you ran out of time making more rewards. what could also be cool in the future is a way to estimate the audience sentiment to manipulate them better ;) also almost forgot, nailed the vibe and the artstyle is really cool, like one of the paintings that would be auctioned off

The art and sound are excellent. It's a shame you didn't have time to expand on it, it's an interesting concept and I was hoping to play more!
