Boarder by Brandsma

Description

In Boarder you'll get to play as a boar exploring the wilderness in search of sustenance. As a clever collector of the forest, you'll forage for food scattered across the map and haul it back to your cozy burrow. But you're not alone in this adventure – with each successful delivery, your group of boars grows stronger and larger! The more you collect, the more friends join your cause, and the more mouths you'll need to feed.

The wilderness is vast and full of surprises. You'll need to balance your time between exploring new territories and making regular trips back home. Can you build the biggest boar family the forest has ever seen? Can you master the art of efficient foraging? Can you become the ultimate collector of the wild? Goal and Theme of the game

The goal of the game is to grow your boar family as large as possible by collecting food and bringing it back to your burrow. Every successful delivery adds another member to your group! We embraced the Ludum Dare 58 theme "Collector" by making you a hoarder of food – but with a twist: you're not just collecting for yourself, but for your growing boar community. The gameplay loop is simple yet addictive: explore, collect, return, grow, repeat! About us

Oh my gosh, those boars are so adorable!

And your theme interpretation is really cool.

The only thing that bugged me was the quirky tree hitboxes. It felt a bit strange that you couldn’t walk behind the leafy part of the tree. Sometimes mushrooms would drop inside the tree, and it was impossible to collect them.

But overall, it’s a really cute and solid jam entry!

The boars grow (and die) very fast. Fun to dash into the trees and scare the squirrels. Wasn't sure what the significance of the different mushroom colors is.
Btw., the embedd here seems to be broken. But it works fine on itch.

really cool theme interpretation and I liked funny sounds! I guess there is not so much space to develop but still nice game

Nice game :) played on itch since its not working there. I tried to make the hoggy stay alive but they die so fast

Nice looking pixel art. So satisfying to hit the big trees. I had fun stealing mushrooms from farms. When returned, the hogs were all dead. So sad :(

Very adorable! ALso it feels satisfying to just charge through mushrooms, especially when you are going fast. The only thing that keeps happening to me is that the control seem to invert themselves, but maybe I m doing something wrong. Overall very fun!

@Okuso controls invert themselves when you eat one of those rainbow shrooms. It means you are tripping ;)

Love the design and the gameplay loop.

I enjoyed running around the map, but it did feel like my boars died too quickly (i was gone 30 seconds tops), which kinda broke the game. No more boars spawned, no matter how much food I gave them, so a game over screen could've been helpful there or a flashing warning letting me know that they're all dying

I was frankly surprised when I first got back and saw huge family gathering! Not sure if bugs to mention but I saw on the right one huuuge tree and something food flew into places where couldn't get. Smooth entry without game breaking bugs.

Great job on the game! Fits the theme pretty well. Wasn't really clear if there were more levels to find or if there was a certain goal. also yea a gameover screen would've been neat. the different kinds of mushrooms were a great touch as well :)

Nice game!! I especially like how "zoomy" the player is (talking about the dash and movement speed), the only thing getting in the way of the movement are some of the level hitboxes as others mentioned.
For Unity builds on the web I'd recommend you guys check out this WebGL template, I've used it a few times and it's very clean: https://seansleblanc.itch.io/better-minimal-webgl-template

I’m not sure if it’s the sprite of the boar or something about the movement itself, but it just feels really satisfying to move around the map. The game does have some balance issues, resource consumption scales faster than you can keep up, but even with that, it’s genuinely fun to play for a bit. Cool!
