BLOODPACT

Is our first project created for this event. The game is set in a gothic dark-fantasy world. Its protagonist, Marceline, is a vampire whose mission is to take revenge on the human kingdom for invading her chambers and stealing her artifacts.

The Blood Moon is rising, and tonight its glow will shine brighter than ever.

Not to accuse you guys of anything, but the blotchy graphics give a heavy AI vibe. Could you describe your art process a bit?

@manabreak hello! Is my first experience in aseprite, so i combined clipstudio standard art, ported it to aseprite and shrink to needed size. Standart size of pictures is 320x180 pixels (for work on 16:9) after export in size +400%. White rooms and textures in it (shadows and dirt) is literally made from photos of our team members (fx function in aseprite for glitch/mix sprites). Room with bell i also did in 3d and ported to aseprite. In some moments i photobashed in clipstudio. So ye in moments it little collapsed or deformed, but i did everything so make it all smooth xd

Overall combined with resprite for tablets,i worked with 3d, some free use png for effects texture, photo of our members, irl photo, clipstudio and sometimes procreate

Also for objects we taked irl photo of jewelry and too shrinked! Only cup is png from free use hehe

Updt: and forgot add, animations is clingy since we had not a lot of time, so i did with my friend maximum simple anim, will pin here first attack animation of knight xd

Congrats on finishing your first game! Quite ambitious to go for such complex graphics right away. The music makes a great atmosphere!
I think getting the hang of pixel art games and platformers involve a lot of trial and error. I find it easier on the eyes if there is color temperature difference between foreground and background elements, so they are more easily to distinguish. I also almost ran past most the artifacts because I could not make them out that well. E.g. adding a highlight/tiny shine to them could make them pop more.
It can also be nice to add visual feedback if you receive damage, so you don't have to move your eyes forth and back between player and healthbar all the time.
Personally I was keeping the sprint button pressed all the time, also because it was much necessary for jumps between platforms. At that point I'm just thinking it would be okay to make this the default speed or to lower the gravity to allow further jumps with normal walking speed.
Anyway I don't want this to sound too negative, getting 3 levels done in this time frame already seems quite an achievement to me.

(PS. but I think in the parallax effect of level 2, the closer trees should be moving faster than the trees further away)

Yes, I noticed this issue and we wanted to fix it. In the future, I’ll draw new platform textures and correct the shading mistakes. I really like adding details, so in this case, it’s probably a bit too much XD

Initially, we had an idea involving stealth, which is why there’s walk and sprint, but the mechanic was too hard for us to add. And TRUE we really do need to add a damage animation

Everything’s fine! Any criticism is always welcome we’ll definitely take your suggestions into account!

We’re already aware of the bugs in the game and will keep fixing them! But for now, we’re suffering with the html export haha

@alex-o thankies! We still work on them! Knights have base attack and intelligence with area of detection, they have random hp. Mages run from player and have range attack. We work now on new mechanics and animations, also plan to add messages with tips

For a first time this is pretty good! It's a finished game for sure, with a lot of ambitions. I feel like you tried out things. I hope you learned a lot for next time!
The controls are a bit janky, but the game is very playable. I almost died in the forest though.
I'd say the mood, with the graphics and the music, is a success.

Really intresting graphics. The controls were slightly unintuitive to me. I dont think the running worked in the web build? I not sure what happened but I kind skipped the forrest level immediatly after entering, weird.
For first project this is really nice, and you brought up the castelvanina style mood nicely.

It is very beautiful pixel games i saw. A lot of detailed graphics. I found some strange behavior. Sometimes my character stops and don't responds in html version. May this is mechanic because i receive a damage from opponent. But i didn't see visual effect with that mechanic so i didn't understand.

Creating such a work on your first participation in a game jam is truly impressive. I finally reached the church and absorbed everyone, collecting all the items! I really love the scene design and the feeling of the foreground trees obstructing and shifting in the second act. From your comments, I saw that you even made 3D models just for the background textures, which shows how passionate and versatile you are in game development. A great game! Love it!

Not quite sure if I even completed the game, just kinda interacted with with I think is the door when I entered the bell part without all of the items collected and got thrown back to the main menu. Art is very well done and even showed how it was being done, props for that. Honestly I have seen paid games with even less content than this game, just expand, build a community and send it.

@6knowledge Thankies! I wasn't interested in the items code, but most likely when you take an item in the bell tower, it counts as you completing the first level. We are still working on and developing character concepts and testing the code. This is @Feodor first time working on code, but he is god for us! In any case, we plan to develop the game further, and most likely next week we will add an update.

Nice visuals! IMO theme was not used that much, but the game is fun enough. Forest location was very moody, my favourite. The pace would benefit if you would put some platforming puzzles

@greedy-merchant Thankies! in the game, you collect the blood of your enemies to replenish your health, as well as items to further facilitate gameplay. Anyway in plans we have a lot ideas, but need to make them logic! I think we'll add some puzzles and problem-solving to the levels! Thanks for the idea hehe

@khaotom next step collect bodies of enemy and bring them to the altar to satisfy the hunger of god!

Really good work, I agree with everyone that the artwork is amazing! I would have like the gameplay to be a bit more challenging, but for a jam it's maybe better to give everyone an easy time finishing the game.

Like the graphics and audio. Felt like it was a bit easy to play and the attacks felt a little light and weightless. Would have liked it to feel a little more obvious when my attacks connect with the enemies.

One 'bug' I found is if I left to the far side of the screen I could jump up to the level above through the platforms. Overall very good entry into the jam, thought you guys got a lot done with this entry. Great job :thumbsup:

Stunning art and music, reaaaaally liked the different mood between inside and outside. The nice part is that the game difficulty is well balanced for a gamejam (maybe just a little more difficult would be nice) and the game design is easy to understand, leading to a coherent experience!

Reminded me very much of the old DOS games. Some more visual feedback on the enemies when struck with knockback would be cool. The progress to second level took me a while to figure out also :sob:

The spinning forest with the bats was very trippy!

good game overall. It was a little bit confusing that I could not throw projectiles from the beginning. It would have been even better if there was a jumping strike available. Good job.
