Keychain Clash by Profugo Barbatus

[raw]
made by Profugo Barbatus for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

itch_Page.png Collectors are driven by their will, their passion, and their obsession with the things they love. One of the most popular physical manifestations of this is the Ita Bag, a wearable shrine to a persons favorite collections.

In Keychain Clash, you compete during a convention to build the best Ita bag you can, from scratch, from whatever you can collect in Artists Alley. Plan carefully, weight your options, learn the fandoms, and with a bit of luck, you'll get the coveted S ranked bag!

Another Ludum Dare down, and our first one with Godot to boot! After half a decade of Unity, its very refreshing to come out the other side. Initially, we expected that we'd struggle and the game would not be great, but instead it turned out excellently. Godot is very intuitive, and it was very easy to learn what wasn't known, when we needed it most. In many ways, it was even easier!

As for theme, this was a simple one. We decided to play off the history of two of our other games, focusing on vtubers, and expanded it into collections in general around fandoms. Artist had a blast, and we brought a few friends characters in for guest cameos (all her own art though).

Nice game, I liked the keychain art, but some modifiers (rainbow) made it harder to appreciate the original art.

I got an A :D Very simple and neat concept, and pretty cute visuals. I just wish I had any clue on how to discern the different themes. Is it the booth colors? And a little ranking to know which modifier is best. Other than that I add a good time playing it\

Got my S tier bag! The idea is unique and very cozy to play. The art is extremely beautiful. Gameplaywise it was a cool touch needing to place keychains so that more could fit. Lovely piece of a game!

Cool idea, but badges may be too large for the grid + fandoms are not so obvious.

I might have picked a lot of duplicates, but I got my S-ranking!

I guess you could have penalized the raw scores for keychains you already have to force players to take risks?

The game was really fun. The "building blocks" are simple, but everything fits very well together, and it really works well. There is a good balance of strategy and risk-taking, together with the implicit lore of the different fandoms. The art-style is cute and fits very well

My main complain is that you could have slightly improved the UI when calculating the score. I'm thinking of the score breakdown on the right side which could have been a little more readable (for example with bold, a separation line between fandoms, etc.), but also the bag itself (e.g. the itas could have been colored by fandoms). I think it would have helped me understood the fandoms better ;)

Very nice game, well done!

Quite a fun take on the theme, it's a neat use of the "optimal use of grid space" mechanic you get in games like Backpack Battles. Art was nice too. I think having a faster, more snappy transition whenever you enter a shop would have been good to keep up the pace, as it does feel a bit too slow. But overall I enjoyed it quite a bit. Well done!

I really enjoyed the aesthetic of this game, and the idea is extremely charming. I hope you continue with it! It would be fun to have NPCs to talk to to give you hints about what keychains belong to what fandom!

Art style is nice, love the keychains, but some clutter around the would be a nice thing, level seems a bit sterile. Still, great theme representation and very cozy (Betrayed Maria is my spirit animal from now on).

I didn't even knew something like Ita Bag existed until now :D The art is adorable! Cool music too. I really like the theme of the game, my only complain is: it is a bit random. I didn't see any gold for a long time (I get they need to be rare, but for example I got none on my first try). Anyway, good job!
